Well the subject says it all. I have a parker hale 7mm....could it be converted to 404 J and is it feasible? What would a ball park figure be if it's possible? the chef

The primary problem is getting the proper magazine box and getting the gun to feed. Your Parker Hale mag box will not work properly. So basically you have a receiver and a bolt but need everything else. Most importantly, you need a top notch rifle maker to do the project. Based on my past experience building big bores, if you do it right there is no way to complete the project for less than $3K. And if you don't do it right, better not start as it is a waste of money.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I sure damn wish I had bought the 404 at the gun show last year. It was pretty nice for $3500.00. the chef

RUM bottommetal would work perfectly. that's 500 bucks alone... barrel is 200 (at least) bluing -200 assuming you keep the stock the same gunsmithing - $600 (reasonsble) 1400... or, selel the parker -400 buy a cz in 404 1500 and have 300 in the BETTER for brass and dies.. or convert the parker to 416 AR jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Parker Hale mausers were built on Spanish made Santa Barbara actions. While these are fully serviceable, they are not the top choice for an expensive custom project. Parker Hale did make their Safari or African model in .404 Jeffery. They usually sell for less than $1500 when you come across one, because the fit, finish and woodwork are nothing to write to home about.

Here is a nicely done .404 that was sold recently by WR for about $4500. These pop up every once in a while if you watch for them.

Jeffe, Who is making RUM bottom metal for the model 98? Recknagel makes .404 bottom metal for the M98, but it must be ordered in from Germany. Blackburn doesn't make it unless he started recently.
