I would like to hear feed back from those who have built or been using the 416 Ruger and 416 AR. Ruger's Alaskan Hawkeye in 416 Ruger is intriguing because it is an ounce under 8 lbs out of the box. Adding a scope (either 1.5x5 type or the compact 2-8x Nikon) and 3 rounds should bring the total to about 9 lbs even. 40.5" long. That is quite a tight little package at a very good price (rifle under $900). I wonder if my wife would like it? She doesn't want to carry a 10.5-11 lb rifle, that's 10% of her own weight. (She can handle a 338WM at 7.4 lbs. and might want to stay right there. "It jumps a little".) If building a 458 out of the Ruger, the bolt face is already even with the case. From my understanding, the 458 AR is rebated, which raises a question about feeding. Any experience here for sharing? A final question concerns costs--keeping rifle costs around $1000 or under, if possible. How difficult/expensive would it be to rebarrel a Ruger Hawkeye to either 458 'Ruger' or 458AR? +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

I am having a .416 ruger put together at the moment, rem 700 style action with m16 extracter, kreiger barrel manners composite stock. Gun will weigh 8 pounds there abouts. I had a cz 550 .416 rigby that I sold to fund it. I found I wanted a more compact .416

I'm keeping my CZ550 416 Rigby. I like it but might consider rebarreling in 450 Rigby in a couple of years. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

the 416 ruger is externally interchangable with the 416 AccRel ... both are easy to get 2400fps out of ,, and if 2400+400gr bullet are the targets, either does it well. I recommend the Ruger in this case (pun intended)as it is factory, and everything is just a little easier if you can find a barrel maker who will do it that light, getting to the 458 AccRel is pretty easy.. start with a hawkeye and find someone who will make the barrel +.044 greater in diameter than the 416 ruger hawkeye barrel ... the rebate, as its based off the rum, is of no consequence. hate to say it that bluntly, but its a whooping .018 in theory, .014 in reality, which is 4 sheet of paper in total, or 2 sheets of paper per side, in reality send the ruger to mcgowen and have them install, feed, and blue the beast ... opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? 416 Tanzan, I have a 550 in 450 Dakota, that started life as a 416 Rigby. Find a takeoff 458WM or Lott barrel and have it fit, and chambered. Check with Wayne at AHR, he sometimes has takeoffs. Figure maybe $400 +/-. Rich DRSS
