From what I understand the case is actually a bit smaller than the .375 Dakota. The "magic powder" isn't far from reality as Hornady has been making "heavy and light" magnum loads for some time and it's also been posted that velocities fall short of advertised data. I truly suspect that what's coming from the Hornady/Ruger bunch is a cartridge fully equivalant to the .375 H&H in a short (standard) action. If true, this isn't bad at all. Using a standard magnum bolt face and a standard magnum length action where any 7 MM Rem Magnum, or similarly configured magnum, rifle can be simply rebarreled is where the Hornady/Ruger folks have the edge. Any gains at all in velocity over the H&H offering will simply be a bonus and I'm not really expecting much here. Ruger isn't the first company to offer us some BS in their new rounds. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." With my 375 H&H I get 2648 FPS with the 300 gr bullet.

What is your load recipe. The 2006 Hodgdon Annual Manual shows you can get: 2645fps with a 300grs Sierra SPBT with 81.5C of H4350.

I'm not "hacking" on the 375 Ruger, just cautioning, sort of a buyer beware!

This brings up an interesting problem...will the powders that Hornady uses to get 2800 fps, (if indeed they do), be available to the handloader? If not, what velocities can we expect with the "normal" powders available?

A 375 H&H equivalent in a standard length action? I saw one of these the first time around when it was called the 376 Steyr.

I like Rugers, but this seems an extension of short magnum crap.If you got a 375H&H, and want more power and get more, you need gun as heavy so recoil isn't greater.SO WHY WORRY ABOUT GETTING ACTION SHORTENED A QUARTER OF AN INCH. Get a 378Wea or 375RUM reamer.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

But Ed, what if you're like me, and don't have a 375 H&H? The 375 Ruger would put the same level of power into a modern beltless cartridge in a regular action at a (hopefully) regular price. I'd be tickled if it was the full equal to the H&H. Any potential beyond that is just gravy. If they introduce this as just another chambering for the RSM, they will be missing a whole boatload of potential customers. The same guy who would buy a new 338 WinMag for an Alaska trip (for example), could be very tempted to go to the next power level by being able to get a 375 Ruger in the same rifle for the same price. That would be smart marketing, IMHO. ============================== "I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down" --Fred Durst

Ed, a ruger retails for 520bucks... a blackburn bottommetal is 480.... makes sense, and everyone in the world can "afford" a 3.35" action... opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Hornady's loading components are not likely going to be made public but reloading data will be supplied for most powders as they want to sell dies and other tools. If you handload carefully you should be able to make the .375 H&H velocities with little trouble. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
