This (supposedly) is a 21' Aligator killed by the US Army recently in New Orleans.

What caliber would you use hunting something like this?

BTW I understood that both crocodiles and Alligators were found in the south of the US.

I think you've been dooped on the photo.

That circulated its way here back with the story that it was killed somewhere in Africa.

I suspect the former over the current story.

The only place in the US where the "American Crocodile" (Crocodylus Acutus) is found is in extreme southern Florida.

You always use head-shots on such things from what I've heard, so any good centerfire rifle will work well. I'd grab my '06 with 180's and i'm sure I'd have no problems.

I saw this at work last week, my resposne was it was the makings of a fine gun case and boots.

For daytime work a flat-shooting and ACCURATE rifle in .270Win class. Gots to hit them brains. Don't want to give them an education, but you want to drop them stone cold!

I saw that photo a bit ago but it was supposed to have been killed by troops in the congo
