For the purpose of enriching the body of human knowledge, I would like to solicit published articles from Robgunbuilder, RNS and Jeffeoso. The articles would be suitable for publication in magazines whose subscribers have an interest in big bore rifles and/or African hunting.

In Robgunbuilder's case, the article I envision would be about the design of the .600OK, construction of a rifle in .600 OK that feeds based on a CZ550 or GMA action, chronographed load data for the .600 OK, and test results of using the .600 OK on buffalo or elephant.

RNS' article would cover design of the .550 Magnum, construction of a CZ550 rifle in .550 Magnum, chronographed load data for the .550 Magnum, barrels, components and gunsmiths available to creat new .550 Magnums, and test results of using the .550 Magnum on buffalo or elephant.

Jeffe's article would cover specifications of the .550 Express, conversion of a military Mauser to .550 Express, chronographed load data for the .550 Express, and test results of using the .550 Express on buffalo or elephant.

What say you?

I have enjoyed Robs posts and have been inspired to build my own guns by them. I have been awaiting news for sometime on the 12 gauge from hell single shot he was building. I have always wanted a LARGE single shot all I need is a little push.

Dan,

To set the record straight, both the Magnum and Express are Neal's creations, I only get the assit on the express.

other than my results to date are only on a feral hog, I am in.

I assume you want a log and pics, as well as commentary and "new user" reactions, with comparision to the 577 nitro.

We won't have anything bigger until november.

That is, unless Butch hangs a goat out to attract some kittys, and we'll see how well hawks work on advanced nercous systems.

Jeff,

Actually I am not soliciting the articles for myself - I am trying to solicit you guys to write the articles and submit them for publication. Smiler However, if I can assist in any way, I would be very happy to. Using the rifle/cartridge on DG in Africa, with corresponding pics of the rifle, the cartirdge, maybe a cartridge drawing, a table with reloading data, trophy pics of an animal(s) shot with the rifle, and a write-up that goes 1 to 2 pages published in a magazine would make it attractive to a publisher.

The only real sticking point is the cost of taking the rifles to Africa for a trial run. Yet that is what makes such an article attractive to a publisher.

Great idea to have Rob do an article on the 600 OK for a reputable rifle mag or Africa Hunter Magazine. Info on two actions, several barrel lengths, and loads are available. Most of the load data could be supported by chrony data, but don't know about the liability of publishing load data??
What's missing is the actual hunting data, ie. buffalo or ele. Rob was going to Africa to remedy this for buffalo, but not to sure about the ele. Hope he took the 600 OK along as he hoped Smiler

May I suggest the nom de plume "Bubba Smith"?

Yeah, I'd spend more on a proof reader than I'd ever get paid to write.

500grains- Yup I've got to take the time and write a few articles on the beast. I'm off to Africa in a few weeks for ELE but it looks like I may not be bringing the .600 OK. Given the current situation with the airlines and security I'm probably just going to use a double .470NE.
The 12ga FH is mechanically complete, but I have not found any decent wood to stock it yet. It's been test fired and works just fine but the action is essentially a supersized borchard and requires some complicated stock work. -Rob

I look forward to the 12ga fh photos. I want to build a large single shot. I was thinking one of the "bore rifles or a 577bpe" Want to use blackpowder loads.
Have you seen these cast actions?

Dan,
Read your latest in African Hunter, an excellent article for the less informed reader/hunter...your last article, before this one, was an exceptional article and more for the experienced hunter crowd an it was more up my alley, or am I just a confirmed bullet digger?.... thumb

Ray,

Thanks for the feedback. It may not have been a scientific test, but it was fairly convincing to my small mind. Smiler
