I was wondering if any of you have used the Leupold QR system of bases and rings on your big bore bolt-actions and how they stood up. I have zero experience with them in anything bigger than standard cartridges.

I have always used either Warne rings and bases and Talley......... although I have never used Talley on anything bigger than a .375 so far.

I will be interested in comments of those who have actually used the Leupold QR system on heavy recoiling rifles. I already know and use other options.......... but the QR system is pretty unobtrusive and the one set I have tried was surprisingly repeatable for accuracy in the removal/reattachment of the scope department.

I do not know anyone that has used them on a big bore and in fact they are rather uncommon across the board where I live. Most hunters in this area are still using their Grandfather's handed down rifle with a set of Weaver rings. Wink

I have used the Leupold QR system on my 458 Lott with no problems. I have also used the Weaver style QR system made by Leupold but like Leupold's proprietary system the best.
Returns to zero are close but not exact.

I have them on a couple of rifles and largest rifle I have used the Leupold QR rings on is a 9.3x63. I do like them and the only issue I have seen is that if the levers get over tightened they can be hard to remove and the levers will break !

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

I have used the Leupold detachable type with the post and lever that cammed into it. I used these on M70 375 H&Hs & 416 Remingtons. I do not recall any major issue with repeatability.

But, vividly recall the stiffness of removing them after several rounds of 416. It appeared they continued to tighten with recoil. If I wanted them off "quick" I used a Leatherman. I never broke a lever, but did hear of some being broken in that time frame.

These were early sets and I tried various lubricants/greases on the contact surfaces. Perhaps, they have modified them since. I do know I was not the only one experiencing difficultly in removal at that time.

I now use Talleys on M70s, screw-lock and lever type.
I use Alaska Arms on Ruger 375s,416s, 338WM, 300WM, 7mm Rem, etc/etc.

I have a set of the Alaska Arms for a CZ 458 Lott, though have not put them to use yet.

Been using the QR and QRW Leupolds exclusively on my big bore African rifles for over 20 years...375H&H, 375RUM, 416REM (2), 458Lott & 458B&M. Never had a problem. Excellent return to zero. If they become overtightened I just give them a tap with something and that's all that is required. I give them my highest recommendation

I have a set on a 450/400 N.E. I have hunted with it and shot it a lot with NO problems. They do return to zero after being removed too.

Skyline, I'm not sure if my rifle qualifies as a big bore( varying opinions) , but it is a .375 AI weighing less than 9#'s. According to some formulas, recoil is in the 60 ft. lb. range. I've been using Leupold QD's for over twenty years, and am very sastisfied. Never had a problem shooting good groups, and after removing/replacing the scope, I thought that it returned very close to zero! memtb

I've had a set on a Mark V .460 and on a M70 in .416 Rem. for about 20 years. Each have been carried a ton locally and made a trip to Africa. I haven't removed them and replaced them a lot, but they sure seem solid. I've even done the cardinal sin of carrying the rifles by the scopes for too many miles to count. And on one crazy day I fired 50+ rounds out of the .460 at rolling bowling balls and the Leupold QR survived that just fine.

They seem like a great value for QR.

I like the Leupold quick detachables, they work just fine and are pretty nice looking..The hold up fine on all big bores..I have heard of some breaking levers, but when I checked into it the owners in two cases were tightening them, one with a punch and a hammer, the other with pliers..go figure, finger tight works in most cases, but a light tap with a wood dowell won't hurt a thing.

I prefer Talleys to any other mount made in the USA, and use them on all my big bores, have for many years now..They are a take off on the old Len Brownell system, I loved those old Len Brownells and they mounted lower than Talleys giving more clearance of barrel mounted iron sights...Keep in mind that Talley makes a neat little peep sight that slips on the Talley bases, and that's the set up I prefer..The largest caliber Ive used Talley on has been a .470 double and a 7.5 lb. 505 Gibbs IMP. with no proplems. other than the Gibbs near killed me with recoil..BTW I tighten Talley with a piece of arrow shaft 3"s long and a Ebony ball in one end for grip and looks, carry this in my cartridge belt or pocket..It has just enough leverage to tighten but not break anything. I would call it slightly overly finger snug at best! Smiler Actually I set my Talley levers at 1/4 inch from straight up the scope ring, then using the cheater bar I tighten it that last 1/4 inch to straight up..
