Hi all, I'm thinking about starting a .com store. I'm looking into haveing a run of loading dies made for the NE and big bore calibers that are not in the main stream. should be able to offer them around $85 with a quantity purchase. which calibers do you think are the most loaded? I'm thinking of this order 470NE 500NE 404 Jeffry 505 Gibbs 450 no.2 450-400 ??? Any thoughts?

I think the 'most loaded ' big bore cartridges are: .375H&H (I know, it's really a medium bore ![]() .458 Win. Mag. .416 Remington .470NE, etc. George ![]()

Out of this list I would rank them as follows in terms of popularity: 1. 470 NE 2. 404 Jeffery (but it will overtake 470 NE in the next 10 years) 3. 500 NE and 450-400 tied. 4. 500 Jeffery beating .505 gibbs by a small margin, but that will change with the CZ550 when the .505 will take 3rd place in this ranking.

Yes George, I thought about those, but factory dies are availible for them at a reasonable price already.

I would have thought the .458 winnie and .375 would be the most loaded.

A .45-70 easily beats all of these hands down. I guess you have to define "big bore" first. Brent When there is lead in the air, there is hope in my heart -- MWH ~1996

Go to Huntingtons site and look up their die groupings and that will probably give you idea and ditto for Redding. 375 H&H for example is in the group with 270, 30/06 7mm Rem etc At the die prices you are talking about perhaps your posting is not aimed so much at the most common big bores loaded but the most common big bores loaded from a list of the less popular big bores of those that are not considered on the main stream. Yes, I should have stated the most common of the uncommon. The ones that don't have reasonabley priced dies already. Thanks for your input.

I think 500 Grains list would be close but I would add 450 Rigby and because of the CZ. I would also imagine 450 Nitro would be there because of Ruger 1 conversions. There is probably quite a lot of reloading for some of the smaller English calibres like 318 WR, 280 Jeffery etc because Woodleigh make all the strange diameter bullets but I imagine those guns change hands and dies are already there for them. I don't think you can judge much from the forums, well definitely not with common rifles/calibres. Remington discontinued the Sendero yet the Sendero rifle was common on the forums and people seemed very happy with them. Perhaps the people making chambering reamers such as Clymer and JGS and so on could be your best guide. Mike

imho.. for various reasons, i think this is probably a true popularity level, or at least directional. yep, i think that the flanged nitros are that far down the list. I bet cz has made more 416 rigbys than there ARE say "500 NE" (.375 and up, 3000ft-lbs energy+) 375 HH 458 winmag 416 RIGBY (cz sells LOT of these) 416 rem 458 lott (watts/ackley) 404 jeffery 416 taylor 378/416/460 weatherby (if you lump them all together) 510wells/500a2 470nitro 500 jeffery 450 ne #2 500 Nitro 505 gibbs (there just aint alot of these) I am certain that there are more of Dave's 470 mbogo than there are 700 HH NE. jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Of the NE cartridges you mentioned the 470 wins hands down, followed by the 450-400, the rest would just be a guess on my part.... Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
