Wes,
Am I missing something? they have an opening bid of 500, that won't make reserve, for essentially a piece together, with no name on the action and barrel, with a plastic stock. Just isn't ringing right for me, but it could be that I am being overly nervous.

i THINK the remington mausers are going for about 700.. and you can generally find a whiteworth or model 70 from 700-900 in a decent caliber...

just seems odd..

now, if it was 300, well,.....

It does look interesting, and convienent, but it doesnt appear to be a very good deal to me.

From the pic, the barrel taper looks to be AB barrel, maybe 75 bucks, 100 bucks for a hogue stock, 50 bucks for a trigger, 120 for sights/bb, 250 for an action. Std length mauser bottom metal like that can be bought from brownells for about 75 bucks, looks like about 400 dollars worth of parts to me.

Looks like it still needs a reamer run in the barrel or am I missing something.

I didnt think it was that good of deal, but I've been wrong before

it's a bit better than it reads, they do ffer to chamber it for that price in a couple calibers. Still, if you can find a Whitworth in good shape for $1000 or so these days in 375 or 458WM... Wood stock, express sights, and a known proven builder...go fish a little.

Take Idaho Sharpshooter's advice and fish a little. I found a like new {and besides proof-firing} unfired whitworth express in 375H&H in a pawn shop for 600 bucks! Couldn't believe it, but it's been in my possesion since! Charles Daly may offer barreled actions of the Mark X or Whitworth Express type---I know Zastava's website does but I'm not sure of importation. R.

I think I need to be more clear when I post these auctions. Most I am not interested in, (this is one I was not interested in bidding on) I just want to see what others think.

I thought this to be a little high but maybe not.I think I could get the same rifle completed for close to the buy it now. However I live in SW Missouri home of the cheapos. A good smith will starve to death with steady work around here. Or he will starve to death with no work if he charges what his work is worth.

I like to look at guns. With Gunbroker, Auction Arms, Guns America and AR it is like an around the clock 7 day aweek Gun Show. Look at guns and cuss and discuss.

i like to make a circuit of gun shops and pawn shops about once a monnth... its how i found my .338....controlled feed m70 win.... shop wanted $600 for it, i offered $350 and they took me up on the deal... seems 1 of the shops' regular customers had won the gun in a drawing.... and didn't like the recoil.. he traded for a 98 mauser 270 conversion.... shop had maybe $75 in the mauser, so it was a good trade for them.... when i picked the gun up, i also got a hard plastic case and 16 unfired rounds....it was a good deal all around!!

If someone wants a kit gun they can Buy a used Savage in 300 win mag and order the adams and bennet barrel. do the swap themselves which is easy on a savage. I've seen used savages for about $200 add the price of the barrel and barrel nut wrench and headspace guages and ther you go. Only difference is the savage won't have CRF
