I voted for the .458 because I guess it's the bottom-line for BUBBA calibers... Wink

BUT, 'how 'bout a ".475/.375 ULTRA", based on the .375 ULTRA MAG case.
( I don't have any idea if this is feasible or not, so be kind, please ).
We could call it the ".475 SAEED"
A World Class cartridge. Big Grin

It would be on the big side and the brass is already available.
It's a beltless design with a rim that would fit many existing bolts/actions.
From what I gather in other threads, the rebated rim isn't really a problem.

That's what I'd like to see.

How about a 500 Jeffery case necked to 550 with minimum body taper and a 30 degree shoulder. There might be just enough shoulder to stay away from headspace problems. You would need to lengthen the neck a little for better purchase on the bullet. It might be good for another 100 fps over the 550 magnum (not that any more is needed, of course).

550ARF The ultimate short magnum.

Shoot the largest caliber you can shoot well, and practice, practice, practice.

How about just designating Saeeds 375/404 as the official Accurate Reloading cartridge! Nothing I can think of would be more tied to this web-site! beer

Let's see,

.375 is not a big bore

.416 is already backed well enough

.458 Has it's already formidable loads

.475 Smiler Besides the .470 capstick and all the nitro express cartridges a good .475 with for say 5000 foot pounds of energy would be both toleratable to shoot and a nice bolt gun.

.375,416 , and 458 already meet that spectrum
(well not much to say about the 375 though >Frowner.

Oooh! Yeah! Let's use the Rigby case! Improve it a little, it'll be PERFECT for hunting cape buffalo!

(BTW, 475-505 is called the 470 Royale.)

Gentlemen,

I just dug out an old Guns&Ammo issue from 1995 called "BIG BORE RIFLES".
Now, that's 10 years ago, but it still is my absolute FAVORITE gun magazine in my entire collection...

A lot of changes have occured in that time, but it looks like many of the ballistics are the same for OLD & NEW alike when it comes to 'new' cartridges.
( The .470 Capstick was kind of the highlight of this issue. )

While MacD37's suggestion is a most excellent one, and mine kinda follows along with it, with the exception of the .475 vs. .375, I must admit that the two numbers look good together.
.475/.375

Has there been a cartridge like it before?
If not, then there's a new opportunity.
If so, what most closely resembles it?

Thanks. Keep plugging away!
