My wife has a 375 Ruger on hold at Cabelas, will pick up tomorrow or Sunday (too bad we couldn't get it before the Hoot-n-Shoot).

My first inclination is to load it with 300 grain swift A-frames . . . I know that this bullet will do everything she'd want it to do on Plains Game up to Eland.

Was also looking at the 350 grain Woodleigh . . . (this bullet in particular - Woodleigh Bullets 375 Caliber 350 Grain Protected Round Point) any advantage for this bullet over the swift-A frame? We don't have a buffalo trip any time in the near future, although it is something we will do probably in the next 5 or 6.

I'm still working on putting together my 9,3x74 project for my Encore . . . which I plan on loading with 300 gr swift A-frames for sure.

Hi Troy,

I have a 375 Ruger on a Husqvarna 1900 action. I have been working up loads since last fall. I have found that the most accurate load is the Nosler Accubond which I believe would be fine for most of the plains game. The Accubond shoots reliably under MOA. I have had satisfactory results on the Nosler Partition as well. I have had good accuracy with the Hornady 300 gr. Interbonds. I have not found a load using the Barnes X bullet that will produce consistent good groups.

I just picked up some Swift A Frames a few weeks ago but have not started working on load development yet.

I can tell you that the best powder across the board has been Re-15.

Best of luck. I have been very pleased with my 375 Ruger caliber.

here and I thought she had contracted big bore fever on Sunday. By next year I expect she'll be shooting a 458 Lott proficiently.

hornady 225sp bullets were designed for high impact, are GREAT on deer, hogs, and exotics, and offer reduced recoil. load these at 2700fps, and she will be enitrely at ease with it, then load up, over time to 3000fps, then start with 300grs at 2400 .. she won't care, and may note that recoil speed goes down...

or, barnes 270 tsx ...

in any event, the hornady 225 sp is fast, light, accurate, and a good place to start

Troy,
The 300grain Swift is a great choice for what you mentioned above, I would even consider the 270 grain Swift bullet for all plans game including the eland, shoot flatter and less recoil. The 350 grain Woodie would be better suited for the buff in the future.

270-grain Swift A-Frame or Barnes TSX would be my choice. Hard to imagine needing 300-grains for plains game.

Ditto.

Mine likes the TSXs so far. I am hoping to try the 270gr A-frames in it as they are actually my favorite soft and I have had good experience with them on plains game. Unfortunately the A-frames are a little harder to get your hands on in Canada!

Cheers,
Canuck
