Well, there seems to be little interest in my CZ550 in .375 H&H in the classifieds. So it got me to thinking that maybe I ought to just rebarrel the thing to a real stopper to compliment the Chapuis in 9,3. Is it feasible to locate a takeoff barrel in .458 and have it fitted, or is there a bunch of spendy gunsmithing involved that a pilgrim like me would be ignorant of? I'd consider the .458 WinMag barrel a short chambered .458 Lott, screw it in to see where you are starting and chamber it to proper headspace with a Lott reamer. Otherwise, it's just screwing in the .458 barrel and seeing where it is on headspace and adjusting the chamber/adapting the receiver end of the barrel to fit up properly. No spendy gunsmith work there. Magnum bolt rifle to other magnum bolt rifle. Might have to fiddle with the magazine a bit but there's a good chance you won't need to.

Making a .458 Lott is sort of what I had in mind, so I'll start looking for a .458 take-off. Thanks guys. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

This sounds simple, but it usually doesn't work out that way. The new.458 win mag barrel may or may not "clock" up to the receiver so that the sights line up correctly. It depends on the receiver face dimensions and the barrel dimensions and threads. It's hit and miss even with barrels from the same company. A gunsmith will have to first clock the barrel to the receiver, then adjust headspace. You will need some minor rail work and feed ramp polishing. The mag box should work fine. The follower may also neeed mods but not extensive..-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

That's why you may as well make it a Lott. It's a lot simpler than turning a non-magnum bolt rifle into a magnum because the odds are you won't have to fiddle with the bolt or magazine much. It's just a barrel fitting and chambering issue. Bit of facing off the end of the barrel and check fits, maybe extending the barrel threading a bit, before sorting the chamber will get the factory iron sights lined up properly if that's an issue. It's not the same as swapping Contender barrels like you swap 1911 magazines but it's not that terrible as far as the work involved either.

send it back to CZ and have them fit a 458 Lott barrel to it. My next CZ is going to be a Lott. Rich DRSS Knowledge not shared is knowledge lost...

That's probably your quickest option. George

.........I was out shooting my Lott today .....I keep trying to solidify in my mind what to change it into but nothing is setting up ........I will probably end up having my gunsmith shorten the barrel 2 " reinstall the band fore sight behind a muzzel brake and have a band sling eye sweat on ,,Fit the same style MPI stock to it that I have on my 416 ,,Have it CeraKoted but a different color than my 416,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Rats , the focus was off a bit ,,,,,,,,, .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Gumboot, That's a very nice looking 416 I may have to buy an MPI stock and try to copy that look if/when I decide to get another CZ
