Who makes Adams and Bennett barrels?
Bought a Savage action with bad barrel. Looking at one of the 25/06 Adams and Bennett barrels from Midway as a replacement. Who makes them and are they worth the money? Any body else make a replacement barrel that doesn't require a 6 month wait?

Yep it green mountain at the moment. Mr Woodall at Lothar Walther said that whoever could build them the cheapes got the job. It was shaw and now its green mountain. I have installed a couple (not my bbl choice) and they machine great, and shot pretty darn good. Woody informed me that the easy machining was because its heavy sulphurized black powder steel. The two rifles I chambered hold under an inch, both rifles are bone stock and unbedded. I am not a great fan of them but man they are cheap. They will be just fine for a hunting rifle but don't enter a benchrest match with it. For the price I would jump on one in your situation, midway had some models on sale for $56.

Chad,
wasn't ever shaw... I called and spoke with them on the matter about 5 years ago.

I do understand it to be GM...

and the douglas/shaw/shilen rumors are exactly that...

and it's not bauska or pacnor...

but I haven't seen one yet that won't shoot

Contact Savage directly; they should make it right.

If you can get them under $100, they aren't bad for what they are. Expect a rough bore that will require alot of elbo greese to get clean. The will shoot reasonably accurately, especially if a good gunsmith chambers it and cleans up the crown. Course with the savage you're looking at a complete chambered barrel and likely so/so chamber and hence accuracy.

I'd personally much rather have one bolt gun with a good barrel well chambered than two mediocre rifles with mediocre barrels.
