Gee, I thought I had a big bore but according to another thread it's only medium bore. Oh well, my wife always said I was lacking in caliber.

I think it is relative to where you live, what you hunt and who you hang with. When I was just getting into the shooting sports, a 375 seemed like an awefull big gun. After spending more years and hours than I care to admit here, my 458 Lott seemed like the bottom rung of big bores

Sadly I've yet to get a chance to shoot a 40 cal. I do know that after shooting a 338, 350 and 375, and comparing them to a 458 and 500, there is no question as to which is which

For the sake of this little exercise a big bore starts at 9.3mm and goes up form there. No pistols or shotguns but your 375 is definitely "in".

I sold and traded the 50 BMG's to acquire the Merkel double .470 NE and the Magnum Mauser 98 .450 Dakota. I found the 50 BMG's to be very boring, BIG BORING!

They were too heavy to hunt with and they didn't kick hard enough, since they were braked and so heavy. They were no fun at all, no kicks, no shock therapy value whatsoever.

Well RIP,
That's what we call a strong finish in the circus business! If you get run over by a sugar beet truck this week (I'm making arrangements as we speak), can I have a couple of those?

JCN,
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings and my beet-stained hands grow cold. So you are sick too, and feverish for a .450 Rigby? My prescription: Go and heal thyself by fireforming as premedication, 100 rounds, then some full power .450 Rigby shock therapy, about twenty rounds and the fever should abate, though it is bound to relapse. You'll be needing a booster dose now and then ... a lifetime of cordite is the only palliative, as you well know.

urdobob,

How do you like shooting that 50 BW? I never liked the recoil, it was just too uncomfortable for me. What loads have you been using (H110 and W296 make great big fire balls)?

scott,

Recoil is not to bad...like synthetic stocked 375 H&H.

I put an optical sight on it. I hope to kill a deer in a few weeks with it.

Urdobob,

You are only the second person that has shot that rifle that didn't mind the recoil. Glad you like it. What ammo or loads are you using and how are your groups?

I've got an older 416 Rigby Ruger No.1 and a marlin outfitter in 444, which I consider a western big bore.

I'm STILL waiting for my 600OK from AHR. It's just the barrelled action and I've been waiting well over a year...

I'm closing this post as of now. Feel free to continue to let us know what you've got in the safe but it won't be reflected in the final tally.

It is quite a list and I'm only about 25% through it. Hopefully I'll have it posted by morning.

I do know one thing for sure and that is I've got to get busy, really busy making more big bores for myself. Seriously, I've gotten a number of new ideas for projects from you. Thanks for participating.
