My current big bores....

375 H&H (1)

416 Taylor (1)

45/70 - Marlin (1)

470 Mbogo (1)

54 cal TC BP

Planned big bores...

Nothing. Gun fund is currently in intensive care and the prognosis is very poor. Additions to the gun safe will have to wait until after a cape buffalo or two is in the salt. Priorities, eh.

honorable mention 350 Rigby (mauser 98)

Working on, stocks and metalwork for both the big bores. I also need to checker the stock on the 350. I would like to get a front stuffer double in 12 bore.

Rob - I was REALLY looking forward to your list . Gives me something to strive for and besides I've gotten so many ideas from you already I need to add a walk in safe to my house as it is .

Hey: I've got a bunch a wbys - I guess I'm a moron too. In fact my go to rifle for NA is a 340 that's like a third arm. Dare I say it's even a push feed. Oh my I need therapy.

Did you ever finish the 510-600ok? If so what do you think of it? Are you shooting bore riders or regular softs/solids? I'm thinking of necking the 600 OK down to .416-600 but I think it may be a bit over bore for that. Should really be able to scream a 370 gr solid though.

AC - Only items that you have in your safe NOW can be listed in the first category.

You may list project rifles in the second catagory provided you have a barrel AND action in hand or paid for and/or in the hands of your smith.

You have recently stated that you are turning over a new leaf, please hold to your word. This is a fun poll and not meant to belittle anyone that less than some others. It is not a competition.

Already I am surprised by how many "Odd Ball" chamberings there are being used.

fritz454,

I am to list only the current inventory, that cuts out quite a few big bores, but we will do it your way.

Well let's see if anyone will flame me for this!

9.3X74R X 1
405 Win X 1
416 Rigby X 1
45/70 X 1
500 AHR X 1
12 bore X 1

458 Win mag is a distinct possibility in the near future, we will have to wait and see.

- OR -

It is:

0 - since I sold the 50 Beowulf.

fritz454,

In my last post I stated what is IN THE SAFE RIGHT NOW! However, that isn't ALL that is in the safe right now.

I actually have NO project guns going, and don't foresee any in the near future. I MAY get a 458 Winnie, but then again maybe not. I really don't deer hunt anymore so what is the need.

No mechanized artillery pieces????? Rob, you've let us down. Our feelings are hurt. Surely you can come up with some sort of technical, perhaps based on a 37mm Hotchkis? Sigh . . . and we had such hopes for you, too.

Some have listed muzzel loaders and others a disappointment that artillary was not included. I do have a 1 1/2" bore, ML(6 1/2 ft barrel), total weight of 256 lbs., and two wheels. It fires a 1 pound 12oz projectile (truncated), 2 1/2oz of BP, with 5 foot of recoil. Is this with in the survey?

This is showing me how many gaps I have to fill in my arsenal. Really you guys have some nice toys. I'll get a tally started later and posted to see where we're at. I'm going to credit Saeed with the T-Rex because we all know he's got one.

AC - given your history please try to understand my attempt to be precise with the instructions. I also don't deserve or want any attitude from you. If you don't want to play fine if you do please be civil and you are welcome to join in. As it sits right now I will include the items you listed as "in your safe".

I thank everyone who has participated. It's been fun and enlightening thus far and maybe we'll all get a few ideas. I think the next poll I'll run is what lines do you use to convince the misses that you really need the XXX that's in the store or why you need that rifle your smith could build for you. Kind of like a book of pick up lines but for getting a rifle instead. Anyway that one I'll run next week so no sneak peaks on your favorites yet please.

John

BTW - I'm going to ignore any pistol or slug gun entries. I should have been more specific at the start but I was looking for rifles only. Sorry for the confusion.
