I have a request to do a 404 jeff chamber and a .429 bullet. This will require a special neck (.460") and throat (.430 x .030" FB). Has anyone done one of these and outside of a special custom reamer, where can I find, rent, buy a reamer? My question would be "why"? Will 6/1,000" in bore (429-423) make any difference?

I've never heard of that one, but it makes a bit of sense. If he's never going to hunt pachyderms with it and wants the .429" bore for cheaper bullets, steer him towards buying a set of swaging dies that will take .429" pistol bullets to .423". George

.429 to .423 would be easy as pie. I size 429 to 416 in one easy pass.

Lee sells sizing dies for around $15. Crazy to modify the rifle and use wildcat cartridge.

Possibly related to another post here where an owner of a Springfield barrel bored at .429" wants to use the 404J case necked up to make up a rifle or was also considering a .425WR case with swaged WR bullets to fit the barrel?

Using 429 pistol bullets for low cost plinking/smaller game was done by Jim Harvey 50 years ago using the belted magnum cases, 375/458 and shortened 458 case. Had there been good custom bullet makers then the wildcats might have been a bit more common now. Back then Harvey used jacketed swaged bullets, but the velocities of the magnum cases didn't do the bullets well. The 2" 458 case necked to 429 is very good cartridge for US hunting. B
