The new Dillon press looks interesting for big bore applications.

390ish and Dirklawyer,

May I ask which 3.5 inch brass (or longer) you are using,

and how are you doing this with your respective presses,

the Bonanza Co-Ax and RC Supreme?

Sorry Jack, I actually have loaded 3.25 brass on mine, I'm sure it would do 3.5 the press has a 4 inch opening from the top of the shell holder.

The Co-Ax is a great press, and has a 3 7/8" opening, but since it is limited to 7/8" dies and most of the big British cases need 1" or 1 1/4" die bodies you do need to make sure you can get a 7/8" die set if you want to use the Co-Ax press.

RCBS Ammo Master ten+ years. No complaints (except it doesn't work unless I have time to use it).

Looking for opinions. I think I would like to have a Redding ultra mag press. Does anyone know a downside to that choice? I reload the Lott, .375 HH, .450-400, .45-90, .416 Rigby. I have been using Rcbs Jr. and love it since 1965 but it is just too hard to use w/ these longer cases. Thanks, DrC

Jahwohl,
AmmoMaster from RCBC has an opening of about 7.5" and allows about 6" COL with the 50BMG shellholders installed.
Just going by memory, but that is close.

The RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme (RC IV) has about a 4.5" opening, IIRC, and plenty of room with the shellholder installed to do 3.5" brass.
I make it work for .416 Barrett. The RC IV has 1.25" die hole and bushing fo 7/8" dies.

AmmoMaster has 1.5" top hole and common bushings for 1" and 7/8" die threads.
Corbin makes a bushing to use 1.25" dies in the 1.5" hole.
With all those bushings and an AmmoMaster you have it pretty well covered with one press.

The UltraMag was specifically designed for these longer cases, having a ram travel of 4 1/8", and is a powerful and very rigid design. A downside that I see would be if used for shorter cases; the ram throw will wear on the user after a while. Another is the ergonomics of the links possibly obstructing access to the shell holder, but would not be an inconvenience for low-volume loading.

Macifej has posted a pic of the Hornady 50BMG press,
that he has machined to even bigger top hole than 1.5", for his 2 Bore.
Hornady copied the AmmoMaster pretty good, eh? hilbily

This is this guy's fourth or fifth post on the same topic. The Rock Crusher has been mentioned, and it is still available from CH4D. It would be my choice if I needed a really big press (and could afford it). I'm very impressed by it because the design doesn't employ standoffs.

This is a good quality solution that's inexpensive. I designed the "Bubbamaster" press a few years ago in case any of y'all need to load a 35mm Oerlikon or juice whole coconuts & other such antics. It's big and costs a looooooot!

I'm using an Ultramag. The only downside, if you use your press for priming, is the lack of automatic primer feed. It seems plenty big, strong, and rigid.
