Woodleigh 350 grain 375 cal

2 part question. 1. Has anyone tried these bullets in a 375 H&H? Any situation where they would be an advantage over 300 grainers? What kind of velocity do you get? 2. Has anyone ever come out with a bullet somewhere between 300-350 grains? I always thought that 330 grain would be good, similar sectional density as a 400 grain 416 and it could probably be easily launched at 2400 fps from a 375 H&H, making sort of like a mini 416 Rigby, any thoughts on this?

Folks on the ground have said the 350 grain .375 makes the H&H round into a 416 Rigby. Frankly 2400 fps is plenty of velocity, and why not go with a heavier bullet, especially if using a soft? John Taylor would be in favor of it.

what twist rate do you recomend? why would the 350 grain be good and not the 380 grain which has stirred controversy here by rhino bullets?

Woodleigh also make a 450 gr .416 bullet and a 550 gr .458 bullet which essentialy makes the .416 into a .458 and the .458 into a big .500.....................and so it goes

I do reckon that the 450 gr woodleigh would make sense for the big .416 Rigby case as it has the capacity to rive it at 2400 fps no doubt.

Will the 350s stablize in a 1 in 12 twist rifle? I believe that's what mine is (win 70 safari express)I guess I can just try it to find out.

That's some nice shooting. Is there any information about the rifle that it was shot from?
(Twist, whether it was a rail-gun!, etc.)

The 1 in 12 twist barrel stablizes 350gr/.375 just fine in my .375wby at 2500fps.As a matter of fact,its the most accurate bullet I have found, grouping 3/4in at 100yd and less than 2in at 200yd.
In the H&H case your volocities should be 2300 to 2400fps.Weather that will affect bullet stability I can't say but I doubt it.
I've shot only one black bear with this load but I believe Ray A. used it in Africa to affect.He seemed impressed with it.

I talked with the guy who shot it and it was a custom built Remington converted to CRF with a 28" Lilja 1:12 twist barrel. That group was shot off of a front rest with sandbags, prone.

Never used the Woodleigh 350 solids on game but they do shoot well in my .375. Got them from RAY ATKINSON!

The heavier bullets have a tendency for greater penetration. Maybe someone with experience on game could confirm this.

I do recall Ray.Atkinson posting that he achieved 2400fps for the 350 WL in his 375H*H. I also recall him stating that itregularly(or always?) put two holes in buffalo.

You're right. If one searches, the post can probably be found.

I get 2400 fps easily with RL-15. That gets almost 4500 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, approximately the same as the typical 300 gr. performance. Can only get so much energy from the same case regardless of the bullet weight.

Some load data from the Barnes Bullets - Reloading Manual Number One (Copyright 1992) for the .375 H&H Mag using the 350 gr Barnes Original bullet. This is a lead core bullet; NOT an "X" bullet. It's very similar in construction to the Woodleigh.

Note: I do not know what kind of pressure testing Barnes did for their Manual Number One. It's not stated in the manual. Under the loading notes for the .375 H&H, the manual states: "When shooting for this manual, we used Barnes brass, Federal 215 primers and a 26 inch barrel."

Usual precautions apply about reducing charges and working back up.

Thanks Bob, that gives me a start, I have the latest Barnes manual and it doesnt list 350 grain loads.

This question has probably been asked before, does anyone know if woodleigh plans on producing a load book?

I haven't used the 350 Woodleigh .375 on game but I have used the 550 gr .458 out of the Lott on elephants. If it works as well as the 550 gr Woodleigh for penetration you will be mighty pleased.

I have used the 350grn WOODLIEGH solids and give them the thumbs up.
With great penetration they are great for Buff, Hippo and Elle.
MV 2350FPS.
