We've got barrel threaded and in Savage 210 bolt action.
Both are inleted in heavy maple stock. Have a heavy
recoil shoulder of steel for reciever ring recoil lug and
a barrel band hold down in front of stock.Barrel still in the white and stock still rough finished. Will weigh 27 lbs when done.Barrel is 1.35 in at muzzle and 1.48 at breech. In
picture is couple of 12GA FH cases, with regular 12 ga case and a 458Win for comparison. Also couple 750 gr Bridgerbullets as well as one in the one case.Working now to
get a reamer set up, and maybe will be ready to go in a few weeks.Ed

Ed,
That looks like my kind of gun! Can you give a ballpark figure of costs for what went into it?

Karl-Gun was 400 bucks(didn't use original stock and barrel), barrel would be $275,
my stock just a $50 maple stock, reamer I am working on.The barrel could be lighter thus
saving a little. I got it as a 2 in diameter blank, and if I put it in big action like Rob is doing it would be left that size at breech.
Once reamers are around and if you do most of the work, you can get it done for less than a
$1000 with a fancier stock..Using a barrel that is smaller with breech size 1.35
inches(matches reciever) taper down to 1.2 in.
I made barrel bigger as this is test rifle,
and wanted weight and extra strength.Ed.

I'm about a week away with the Borchardt action. I still have to make a stock, but the metalwork is all done. Great going there ED!-Rob

Jeff- No feed yet, just a singleshot.I will in
years down the road try to get a larger version of Savage 210 action built to handle 4 bore(and full pressure loads also). That bolt and bolt carrier is the smoothest working bolt action ever.It would work beautiful for all
the small NE cases(500, 577, 600) by a little work on bolt head.

The Borchardt will do 4bore as well as State Arms BMG shellholder action.I may get in future
State Arms one for 4bore as they are a third
the cost of McBros 50 cal action or Borchardt.

Rob-Did you leave barrel full length, and what
diameter at the breech?Did you leave action full thickness?About what total wt?Ed.

Karl-- www.statearms.com
They are in Wisconsin--715-366-2006
Actions and rifles look nice. Action is super strong. For 4bore case machine out the
shellholder part of the bolt to fit.My brass
would work as rim is a bit smaller than the
other turned 4 bore cases out there. And we would set it up so the rim would fit tight into machine shellholder groove to give proper headspace(as 4bore case is straight)
and hold case for no movement when firing pin strikes. The bolt front would close tight on barrel so bolt wouldn't move , thus maintaining proper headspace. And yet for putting our 4bore in regular bolt, falling block,or break actions case would headspace on the rim ...Ed.

I just visited that State Arms link you showed there ...

It shows it's owned by a "Larry" somebody ...

What happened to Klaus?

Dang, I didn't know that (and I'm really sorry to hear it.)

I used to talk to Klaus on occasion, but I had no idea it had been 3 or 4 years since I've talked to him... come to think of it, it was probably right around 1999 or somewhere since I called him last - they were running some type of anniversary (or maybe millineum) special on one of their 50s I was interested in. I don't remember now if it was the Rebel or the Big Bertha, but it had a nice blue velvet shadow-box case and everything thrown in.

Klaus was a real character, and a great guy to talk to. I tell ya, time really starts to slide away before you know it, it's next thing you know, it's been years.

Well, I'm glad to see the company is still there, and I hope we get through this latest barrage of anti-50 sentiment that's making waves with the media.

Ed,
Thanks. I just emailed Larry about an action for the 700 nitro project I have been dancing around for the last year or two.He said $850 for one of his actions.Unbelievable price compared to the other options.

BMG, 600NE, 700NE, 70OHE, 12GA FH, Our 4bore case, 8bore, 10 bore, etc. Ed.

Borchardt Action is completed and test fired. It shoots 3 1/2 magnums like a .22LR. I have to mount the sights and make a stock.
I have made a sizing die ( hand die) and a seater as well as a shellholder that works with the .50BMG primer. I will fireform cases this weekend. Man is this thing Huge!-Rob

Rob- I know how it is, not enough hours in the day. And in wildcatting everything is a longer time frame also. I got some heat treated lead bullets and the grooved bullets from John.
I got a set of great big old hollywood 12 ga dies reworked for sizing and bullet seating.I found them on ebay.
I have the gun with a heavy stock with weight added so the combination is out to
25 lbs, even with Savage action.
Rob,just a thought if you have time, check in sports then hunting section
on ebay. There are a lot of two piece stocks,
finished, unfinished, and heavy blanks, some
with high quality fancy wood...Ed
