..... Sorry if this has been hashed out but have just got a dot of time online here @ Chugach Camp ,Prudhoe Bay ,,,, Been a long pull from Southeast to here .............

. So my Question is ., ,If the meplate does the pushin , is there any reason to go with say a 500 Wyoming Express , shooting a 440 gr bullet with a .375 dia meplate , when I could have a mold made with a 375 dia meplate for a 350 gr .452 bullet from a 454 Casull .??????????What is the biggest meplate I can get , is there some [ golden rule ] .... Thanks , Hope every one is still talkin to each other .... Gumboot , standing by [[Hopefully ]]

When researching the SuperPenatrator bullet, I read that there is a relationship between meplate diameter and ballistic performance, and a relationship between meplate diameter and penetation. Unfortunately, the author never said what these relationships are. Essentially, the author ignored the ballistics issues as he designed DG bullets that are typically used under 100 yards. The penetration issue is discussed but no formula are given.
If it helps, I have several .458 caliber SuperPentrator bullets. Their meplate measures 7mm.

John - fritz454 bridger bullets- did some extensive testing, and an 8deg angle worked best for feeding and penetration. That is a "whatever the meplat" works out to be thing

One of the cast bullet companies did some testing on meplat sizes for handgun bullets.

If I remember correctly a diameter less than a full wadcutter penetrated more and straighter than a full wadcutter or a smaller meplat.

I thought I read some where on here that a meplate size of around 75% of bullet diameter gave the best results. Any confirmation out there?

I"ve shot these 375/350, 600/800, & 600/1040 Beartoothe LBT. All pushed to around 1500-1800 penetrate straight & phenominally and create massive wound channels beer

What I would like is about a .4 " meplate on a .451 , .452 dia. bullet ..,, I was suprised how small the meplate was on the 410 gr cast bullet Buffalo Bore loads in their 480 Ruger ammo ...... Since they will be shot in a revolver I,m not as concerned with feeding as I am close range shock transfer and straight ,deep penetration ......
