Based upon the "New Mauser" post, I guess I'll stick with my old beat up FN Mauser 98 in 458 Win Mag. Though it needs some help. The stock is beginning to crack and I was looking for recommendations on a replacement. Can be either for a commercial Mauser or military as I have bottom metal for each. Since the rifle in the existing stock was very barrrel heavy (24" barrel, straight taper) I removed wood from the butt end and stuffed it with lead/epoxy mixture until the balance point was on the middle of the front reciever ring. Currently it weighs in at 10 3/4lbs. I think the weight is about right for me. I am open to any suggestions/recommendations you may have here for a replacement stock. Unless you are wanting a new custom stock, I would repair the one you have. It can be done reasonably and steel bedded/crossbolted and last a long time. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

Jeffe can do you a good job on turning a stock, I think my 7x64 was one of the first few he did on the electric beaver. Not sure if he is into finishing them yet, but if not I use a guy near Atlanta that has done very reasonable work for Mike D. and me. He does decent final inletting, shaping, bedding and checkering very cheap. Browningguy Houston, TX We Band of 45-70ers
