I am having a 24" barrel made by Dave Van Horn for my TC blued walnut stock encore frame. I have calculated recoil at 190ft.lbs according to some resources I have found on the internet. This is based on 7lb rifle and 750 grain at 2050fps. are these figures really even possible this amount of recoil would surely be impossible to tolerate. Please feel free to correct me if my estimates are off. Thanks.

I did not know that was possible to fit a 577NE in an encore. If, I was going to that route, I would buy a new frame and build a dedicated gun around that barrel.

Since 100 ft-lbs is my limit (if even that), I would run the numbers threw the calculator, and see how much weight was needed. Probably start with 26 or even a 28 inch barrel. It could be cut back later. A big meaty forarm. A custom made extra wide in the butt, rear stock. Add and subtract weight in inside both forarm and butt to fine tune the gun. 13-16 pounds seems the recommended range.

I would not want to fire it....but I am kind of a sissy. I also wonder if the stock will hold up. That Pistol like grip looks a little fragile but I may be wrong. Good luck with it.

Recoil depends on velocity, bullet weigh, rifle weight AND powder weight. Use 150 gr of one powder will get you 205 ft lbs of recoil...125 gr of another powder gets you your 190 ft lbs at 750gr/202ft/7 lbs. Getting the rifle weight up to 10 lbs reduces the recoil to around 130 ft lbs...12 lb rifle would put the recoil just about right at 110 ft lbs.

It may sound badazzz to have something that kicks that hard but all you're really asking for is a busted rifle and body...anything over 100 ft lbs is subjecting your upper body, not to mention your brain and eyes, to such impact stress as to make it ludicrous to even think about...and we're not even considering that puny T/C frame and stock.

But I wouldn't want to disuade you from your happiness...I have a 585 HE project in mind for a NEF frame...but NOT at that velocity...I'm too much of a wuss...

I have a TC Encore stainless/synthetic with a 209x45 barrel, and I tried a 12 gauge rifled slug barrel on the same platform. Recoil from the bench, even with 2.75" sabot slugs, was brutal. I am not recoil shy, as I shoot fixed breech guns at skeet and clays, but the 12 gauge barrel on the synthetic Encore platform was something else. I sold the 12 gauge slug barrel after firing it a total of seven times...

Think I am going to scrap the idea of the 577 Encore,the thought of the stock breaking apart just seems like the whole thing will be a pain in the ass to work.In other words, a money pit for single shot rifle. I am just gonna save up for a rifle from American Hunting Rifles instead, maybe a 577 TRex.

Don't scrap the project by any means. You can make it work and shootable.

You will need a thumbhole laminate stock and a forend with a hanger bar setup. This will keep the forend attached without breaking or cracking.

The thumbhole stocks are super strong and recoil straight back. They can withstand considerable recoil.

I had an Encore in 470 Capstick, 458 Win Mag, 50 Alaskan, 416 Rigby, etc. It weighed 10.5 lbs.

This setup should hold up but I would not go full power with the 577 nitro. I would go 650 grains at 1500 or so. You could have some fun by using Trail Boss for 1000 fps.

Install 2 or 3 mercury tubes in the butt stock for added weight and get a 28" barrel in a step up 1.25" barrel. This will add considerable weight. You could get his gun to weigh about 13-14 lbs.

I would encourage/endorse a purpose build gun by AHR. You can be sure you get a good workable gun. They can advise on weight and balance to suit your individual needs. If you have not already done so; it would be a good idea to test fire something like a 458Lott ( or bigger gun like one of the 50's offered by CZ).

You already hear one person say 110 ft-lbs recoil was perfect. You better see for your self, I dont want anything to do with 110.

If you want a 577 NE to use full power load 750 bullet - 2050 FPS you should

do it on a proper strength break-open action, or proper strength falling block,

{like a giant sized Ruger #1} or on a proper double rifle action. Under 13 pounds

without a muzzle break, and you might not love it.

I have fired and owned a Ruger No. 1 chambered in 460 WM, so I am no stranger to recoil. I actually am not new to this site, I did go under the name Positron. I just lost my damn password. Yeah, I don't think a 577 Nitro Express would do anything for me anyway, as cleary the 460 was not enough...

You need to add weight to the stock and forearm and most importantly use a real good muzzel break. I also have a 12gaFH on a Encore and the recoil way exceeds and .577NE. Wear a shooting glove too to avoid knuckle wrap from the triggerguard. My trigger finger is plenty distorted because of years of letting that happen.-Rob
