Hi all, I have decided to build a 450 and would like to go 460 G%A (use Rem 375 Ultra cases). I think the case has enough capacity to offer low pressure loads at 2300-2400 fps without the expense (and big action) of the Rigby or big Weatherby cases. My most serious question is (of course) the old headspace thing? I have watched this site long enough to respect the opinions of most that post here and I am interested in your thoughts on gun weight, case design, can I still scope this thing, and should I choose something else? Your comments will be appreciated. Jamie

Headspace is not an issue with the 460 G&A. You have more than enough shoulder. Look at the .585 NYATI or the .411 hawk, both have less shoulder and will headspace reliably. I found that basically anything more than a .005 shoulder will provide more than enough shoulder to headspace off of.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Jamie, With you doing the loading for yourself, it will work. With factory chamber tolerances, and factory ammunition tolerances, it is enough of a problem that at least two makers declined the .460 G&A opportunity. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

Not to blow my own horn.. but the 458 AR has more shoulder and therefore headspace thant eh GA... shoulder is nominally .540, something over .050 headspace... the GA has more taper. it also fits on a standard length "short magnum" (338 length) action fairly easily.. 2300 is easy.. 2400 is a totally different story, in relation to pressure jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
