If you want to be able to get brass, the standard .585 Nyati 2.8 inch is the way to go. It will push a 750 grain bullet to 2500 fps if you can stand it. The others have greater powder capacity so they have more theoretical velocity but in reality they just use more powder to achieve the same result and kick more. On game there would be no difference in the 3.

your real question, if brass and availabilty are a question is 550 magnum http://www.550magnum.com or 550 express http://www.weaponsmith.com/550-exp.html the first is a 700gr at 2350+ in a CZ action, 3 down, basically a barrel and restock the latter ruger 77 (early), winm70 or cz 700gr at 2150... add a blackburn custom bottom and stock 3 down either can be made from 460 based weatherby, though the 550 mag should have jamison 3" brass, rather than the 2.89" result from a weatherby jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I have a 585 Nyati built by Frank Wells. Bertram brass is readily obtainable from either Midway or Huntington's. I recently ordered some from Huntingtons and they had it in stock and it was cheaper than Midway. I have not had any problems forming the Bertram brass with my regular RCBS dies other than trimming it to length. The trimmer blade on my Wilson case trimmer fits easily into the neck with plenty of room left over. I have a friend with a lathe and he was able to trim it to length quickly and easily. NEI makes moulds for the .577 cartridges for a very reasonable price. It sure cuts down on the cost of bullets and makes a it a fun and cheap practice round.

338guy--Is the Bertram basic brass you get long like 3.25 inches, and straight sided. And are the primer pockets centered. If it is right case I am looking for some.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Ed, the Bertram .585 nyati brass I get is 3.00 inches long. It is soft as dog turds, and inconsitent. Don't count on the flash holes being in the center, although that particular problem only happened to me with Bertram .470 NE brass. Don't count on the rims being the right thickness or diamater. And due to softness, count on sticky extraction with mild loads.

Some 585 Bertrams I got a few of here from OZ and Rob were about 3.3 in long, with the long corner radius, have real hard heads. Good for hairy loads while testing. But the primers are off center, Some of others have shorter radius and short step in corner like some Horneber cases, but are softer and the corner design isn't best for making belted cases. They are also long. But primer is centered. Go figure!! Any 458 HE belted cases I built from Bruces stuff held high pressures, but cases thinned above that long hard corner radius. Most reloads from one case was 10 I think, with less than max loads, and same loads in Bell cases I got dozens of reloads. If anyone sees any 585 that are 3.25 plus long, with long radius inside, let me know.On my case spinner I can take out about half the primer offset, when I rework them.Just need a box or two.Ed. The Bertram 585 brass that I have purchased from Huntington's has been great. I have not had any problems with offcenter primer holes or problems with hardness. Their dealer price on the brass is $66 per 20. I don't have any that have not been formed into a 585 Nyati but I do have a few that have not been trimmed and they measure a little over 3" OAL
