Correct me if I am wrong but the 460 weatherby and 500 a square are based off the 416 rigby correct? Could this conversion of a 416 Rigby to a 500 a square be made with much trouble? Thanks

I'd watch it regarding the difference in recoil. I have a RSM 416 Rigby which is a pussy cat to shoot. My RSM in 500 Jeffery needed some serious stock upgrades to prevent failure. Your talking about 5000ft-lbs (416 Rigby) going up to 7000ft-lb's with the rounds your looking at. I thought the same thing a few years ago and was warned about stock failure issues on this very website.

Did I mis-read or miss something???

The 500 A Square is based on the belted 460 Weatherby case...the 416 Rigby is NOT belted.

Subscribe to AmmoGuide for <20 bucks a year and find all kinds of excellent and easy to do 50 cals as long as you use a receiver already designed for the Rigby case.

Do a search on the Big Bore forum for 500 A Square or 500 AH...this subject has been well documented and most of the information you want is already there.

You can just expand the 416 Rigby case to 50 cal and have a 50 cal Rigby and rebarrel then buy the dies from CH4D...or pick out one of the other Rigby case based wildcats...go with the 500 AH, 500 American Hunting Rifle, 500 Mbogo or 500 A Square with just a rebarrel for the most part...or go nuts and do a 505/510 Gibbs using a CZ mag action.

I wanted my own named case so I chose to go the more expensive routeand paid dearly for the dies,, otherwise I would have done the 500 AH or 500 AHR...I don't think you could go very wrong with doing the 500 AH...McGowen has very excellent and reasonable barrel prices and had the dies early last year.

If you are really interested I would check the die prices first them decide....the 500 AH dies were going for $125 last time I checked...I paid $232 for my Rigby based 50 cal iteration from CH4D. Some of those cartridges have factory available dies or dies available through the originator much cheaper.

AS far as a 460 Weatherby to 500 A Square is concerned...same case...just a rebarrel.

Luck
