Shooting my 600 overkill without the brake was in fact a life changing experience. Don't think I would ever even be tempted to do that again. Call me a pussy if ya want. I am sure Rob and ISS probably will. It only weighs 10lbs and has no merc tube......YET! With the brake on it is much better but not something I would want to plink with. I am still having feeding issues and it will be going back in the shop in February. Will do everything I can to bring it to the Hoot&Shoot in March. I wonder how one shot from a fully loaded 10 lb 600OK would compare against a double fire in a 16pound 600NE. That can inflict some serious injury. | |||

GeorgeS, Bring a video camera and a couple Ben Franklins and I'll think about doing it again. I didn't want a camera anywhere close in case it became the 1st rifle I've ever dropped. I was able to hold on but not by much. I think I stopped my heart for a beat or two. I will say that it was just as bad as Harry's 800gr@2200 550Magnum loads!  Recoil was brisk, huh?  A fellow I knew had SSK put together a .577NE on a Ruger #1. His description of firing it was that "his brain was sloshing around in his skull" during recoil.  As an emergency room doctor, he can't afford to suffer more trauma than his patients, so he didn't fire it very often.  George | |||

George, it don't take a 577 in a #1 to rattle the brain a bit....a fully loaded 500gr 458 Lott in that platform will do it too. I fired exactly 2 shots from that rifle since I bought it here on AR 2 yrs ago. Brutal. | |||

Andy, YOU'RE NUTS!!! Be careful. It'll take more than your breath away! My back between my shoulder blades is still messed up and I'm sure I dislocated a rib from my sternum with that rifle. Not to mention the brief blackouts experienced from whiplash during recoil...  | |||

Andy- Told ya so! Truth be told I've done it a few times myself. Not fun and deprnding on the load borderline dangerous. Make a mistake and you'll go directly to the hospital! BTW on Thanksgiving day I took a .600 ok to a local Class 3 shoot! It was extremely popular! A woman actually stepped up and shot it! My hats off to her! I stood behind her to catch the gun and stop her from flying backwards but she actually did what I told her and had no problems at all. She really wasn't prepared for the whallop though! No smart-ass remarks from me. I shot Wayne's with the brake and it was okay. I shot one round of his 700 without, and one round from Big Doggy 700's four bore. That was enough for me. Like I told my oldest when he asked me about my time in the Army: "I wouldn't take a million dollars for the experience. Wouldn't do it again for two million!"
