I wanted to share photos of the newest addition to my collection. I purchased this Ruger No. 1 in .458 Lott from fellow AR member "Woodrow S" (listed in the Classifieds here: http://forums.accuratereloadin...621086881#8621086881)

I cannot thank him enough for his patience and understanding throughout the purchase. I picked up the gun this morning, and could not be happier!! It is my first "real" big bore rifle (I don't count my two .375's).

This rifle is in 99% mint condition, and has the most beautiful piece of wood I've ever seen on a factory No. 1 stock. I am proud to have it.

My reason for buying the rifle is to help train myself to handle heavy recoil. I have plans of buying a double in the near future (when I can afford it), and wanted something less expensive to practice with. This gun already has a Limbsaver pad, as well as an extra pound of lead added in the butt....for a total weight of 10.25 lbs. I think it should be just right for the task. I may even have to test it out on some big nasty hogs, or another Water Buffalo. Smiler

Here are a few photos....

Wade, that must be an early one...they sure don't have wood like that anymore! Spectacular! Good you weighted it up...they're too light at 8 1/2 lbs for a 458. Good luck!

I have never owned a single shot but this looks really nice and chambered for my favorite hunting cartridge-the Lott! Good idea about training for the recoil too!

Wow-my first thought looking at the picture was that you had a custom stock made! A factory rifle no less!!!

And I would have to pile on kudos to doing business with Woody...I bought a rifle from him about two months ago and it was great to do business with him

Bill Ruger took great pride in the quality of his #1's, especially the early years.

A fine purchase! It will serve well indeed for your intended purpose.

Hold on tightly

It is highly unlikely that this rifle had anything to do with bill's pride - ruger started chamfering in 2002, two years after bill resigned and the same year of his death.

Nice rifle, nice wood, one of my favorite firearms. Ruger began production of 458 Win Mags early (prior to 1970), the Lott in 2011. Here are production dates & serial number ranges:

Thank you for that link....it appears to have been manufactured in 2004.

Very nice looking No1.

I hunted with two different No1's for several years, I like them.

They are fun guns to hunt with.

That is truly some spectacular wood. Like Jeffe said, hang on with full-house loads. I played with one of these a few years back and the first time I shot it, the forend jumped out of my left hand. Glad nobody was watching ...

Nice gun. I had one in .458 a few years back. Was not to bad. I had it rechambered for .460 Weatherby.
That was a mistake. Sold it.
Wish I would have left it .458 WM.

There is a Gun Shop near where I live, that has a Ruger #1 single shot chambered in .416 Rigby. Very nice rifle!
