I will begin reloading this combination next week. Seeking any help you may have as to specific loads, velocity, animals taken etc. Entertaining taking it to Zim in June for a buff hunt.

Mercy! I new this was a wildcat but didn't know I had the only one, it must be worth a fortune!! Let me rephrase my question. Does anyone have any experience with the 416 Taylor?

I think the Texans are all pumping out their cellars the last few days, or operating without electricity which really cuts down on AR posting. I do know that using the longer less dense TSX bullets in my 404 does cut down on powder capacity and velocity however, at least on the COAL I can do with my magazine. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Wink, thanks for the input and being from the great state of Texas I expect you are right on. They are having it awfully bad and much worse than most of us see on the newscasts as all of them are trying to figure out how to bail out the crooks so Washington can continue to exist.

.... muygrande ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sorry , but why do you want to load that bullet in the Taylor .... I,ve had and used 2 416 Taylors and the 350 gr bullet is the max I would use .... You will probably get around 2250 - 2325 fps with safe loads from a Taylor , unless you have a long throat and a long mag box ... The 300 gr TSX , the 330 GS HV the 350 gr Swift , Kodiak , TSX ,and Speer bullets are a great combo and will go 2425 - 2500 fps for the 350,s and 2650 -2700 fps for the 300 gr TSX or Hawk .... My favorite Taylor powder is IMR 4320 .. I use large rifle mag primers and short barrels , my last one had an 18 " barrel and it has now dumped at least 5 trophy browb bear that were leaving ... mostly with 350 gr bullets .... My load was 74 gr IMR 4320 w/ 350 bullets ... Use at your own risk ... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Oh Ya .... with the Hornady and Barnes originals I used 70.5 gr IMR 4320 for me 71 gr was too hot ... IMO the 400 gr TSX is a 416 Dakota - 416 Barret bullet , even the Rem mag does better with the 350 gr bullet ..... The 400 is a great bullet in the Whby mag and Rigby . .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

gumboot, just the input I was hoping to find. My next fallback bullet is the 360 TSX or the 350 Swift you mentioned. Yes, magazine length is definately a control point as mine is 3.30 so the 400 TSX will probably NOT work simply for that reason and hold anywhere near the powder column I need. I am trying to use this rifle as a "step up" from my 375 H&H for a buff hunt. Rifle has been loaded with IMR 3031, 64 gr with the 400 nosler partition but it is highly compressed.

Hi Muygrande, I used the 400 gr TSX in my 416 Taylor Encore pistol to take a Bison up in Wyoming about three years ago.I used IMR4320 or IMR4064 (I can't find it in my records though) but the reloading manual I use was "Nick Harvey's practical reloading Manual" If I find the exact load I will let you know. At 135 yards it went right through the Bison. Good Luck hope this helps, BTH

You can use some 400 gr. bullets but they will just not seat down to the cannalure. If you can get them in the magazine and they feed it doesn't matter. I use the old Speer AGS solids at about 75 gr. RL-15. Use at your own risk. ~2400 fps. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. depends on oal. the tylor, while a great round, is short on case capacity, and all brass or vopper bullets are LONG, so seating to 3.4" takes alot of that capacity. remember, the 416 taylor duplicates the classic 404 loading, 400gr at 2250. if you try, and some folks get, for 2400, you are pushing pressure. cellars in any coastal region of texas are just covered indoor swimming pools. I know it was bad in Galveston, I have friends there. Thank God it wasn't a Camille class hurricane. I passed through Corpus Christi to see a gal a year after Camille hit, it was like a nuke hit it. Hope you are well and you all recover soon . Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I played with a custom 416 taylor a few years back on a ruger mk11.I also believe the 350gr is the best all around bullet in the taylor. With a 22" tube I got 2450-2525 with the 350gr speer or barnes and 2650 with the 300 gr barnes.I was able to get 2350 out of the 400gr hornady.I had great luck with RL 12 and 15 but feel the best taylor powder is IMR 4320.
