Thinking aboiut a Montana 1999 in 416 Rem
I would like to hear the experiences others have had with the actions and barreled actions.

There was some talk about them on the gunsmithing forum, and a search would turn up the threads.

I've built and worked on 4 or 5 Montana actions and have never been impressed. They are pretty rough, uasualy have negative draft all over and poor bolt to action fit. I would much rather start from a good Mauser or M70 action or if money is not a problem a good higher end custom action, Granite Mountain etc.. I only work on Montana's when customers already have and supply them.

See the thread M1999 actions.......................That rifle is becomeing a good rifle but the actions are heavy enough to be good for the full length over 42 caliber H&H or 404/RUM cartridges. ... .ie 470 Capstick,,458/375 RUM ect.......

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I would go for the 416 Rigby, they are nearly the same length, and the 416 is tapped out pressure-wise at the starting (factory) loads for the Rigby. Besides, it's the Big Johnson in a non-belted case.
