After reading up on the 416 Taylor quite a bit on this forum, I decided I'd give it a go. I tried to get out "cheap", but didn't quite make it. Shot my 416 Taylor at the range exactly 5 times before the crappy Remington ADL synthetic stock gave way!

I figured I'd go all out since I had to buy a new stock anyway. Here's what I ended up with:

Remington action
Douglas #5 contour barrel cut at 22"
McMillan dk gray/white Sporter stock w/heavy fill - waited 4 months!!
Williams 1-Pc bottom metal
Leupold QRW mounts and rings w/1.5-5x20

Despite my careful packing, I guess the trigger broke off on the way to the gunsmith and he returned it with a new Remington trigger set at a crisp 2 lbs. I still need to bed the action and bottom metal. And I hope to someday have open sights installed along with a barrel band sling swivel.

I know the M700 action is not a DGR platform, but remember this project started out as a "cheap" way for me to own a big bore (i.e.: screw on a barrel and use the factory stock). I'm very pleased with the way it turned out and can't wait to take it to the range again after it's bedded.

Looks Good.

You'll be wanting to increase the trigger pull weight to 3 1/4#.

How much does it weight with the heavy fill stock?

That is a very nice looking rifle. Is that the 700 BDL classic stock pattern?

Thanks. I will probably end up moving this trigger to another rifle and replacing it with one that's easier to adjust.

Not sure of weight. It goes past the graduations on my trigger scale, but it looks like it would be about 9 lbs.

The stock is McMillan's Sporter pattern. It has a shadowline cheek piece and a straighter pistol grip. Also has more of a forward rake to the comb so it hopefully won't slap my cheek too hard.

257,

Looks nice and I think you made a great cartridge choice. Your ideas on the sights, and barrel band would be nice too.

Personally, I don't think you have to make any qualifications about what action you've used for YOUR rifle - go for it!

Cheers,
