I have a trijcon green post 1-4 scope. I have a vc 450-400 double and ahr cz 458 Lott. I would like to get both the rifles scoped and use the trijcon. I will buy another scope. I want an illuminated scope. Need advice on which rifle the trijcon goes on and the other scope to buy. I am in love with Swarovski 1-6 illuminated but not sure I want to spend 2k. Am thinking of a aimpoint. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Mike, I have recently converted several of my DG rifles to the Leupold VX 6 1x6x24 x 30mm tube in the illuminated # 4 , I like it a lot. I have not hunted them yet, but I did hunt the VX R 1x4 illuminated # 4 and loved it, the VX 6 is better, but both are good. I put a VX 6 on my chapuis 450/400. I don't like the lack of eye relief in the Trijicons. BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

Consider one of Trijicon's Dual-Illuminated RMR scopes for your double. It has tritium, but also uses fiber optic tubes to brighten the dot/triangle. There are no batteries to fail at an inopportune moment. They only weigh 1.20 ounces. RMR dual-illuminated George

In another post in this forum on big bore scopes (few down the page from this one) someone mentioned the Z6 illuminated model eventually was broken on a .458 Lott. The scope held up but the illumination was toast. I have the Z6 extended eye relief model "EE" on my .458 Lott and I cannot think of a better scope for it. I also have VX-6's mounted on my .375 H&H and they are really good glass. 3.8 inches of eye relief across the entire zoom range, which may be a little short for your .458 Lott but YMMV... I'd love to see a photo of your AHR! -John

How do you like the German #4? Is it too fat/bulky?

It seems like there's big support for the illuminated scopes, but I'd hate for the lights to go out after a 2yr warranty on a $900 Leupold.

Ropati, I don't consider the #4 too thick, but then the scopes I am replacing all had Leupold's heavy duplex. I feel it helps me get on target faster. If the illumination goes out it doesn't affect the unlighted reticle and although it may be out of warranty I'm sure the cost of repair will be worth it BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

Of all the companies out there Leupold is one that I would be least concerned about. They have a solid reputation for backing up their products even long after e-warranties have officially expired. While not on a big-bore I did put a VX6 1-6 circle-dot on my wife's Merkel K3 Stutzen. It's a heckuva scope. No question worth the money. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! +1 with BEGNO on the eye relief on the trijicon. I have one on a 404, but I wouldn't want it on a 458 Lott. The new v6 should be more forgiving in relief and the eye box, but I can't speak from experience on the v6.

I used the Trijicon with the green triangle on my 470 double, for buffalo this May it worked great. I have one on my 416 Rigby and 450 Rigby. For your second scope Leopould or a Ziess is what I would use. Member NRA, NFA,CSSA,DSC,SCI,AFGA
