i haven't -- though i expect there's plenty of 460 weatherby loads for same .. there's pressure and belts to take into consideration , though capacity is roughly the same. judging from the 450 loads below, your vel target is reasonable https://www.barnesbullets.com/...0WeatherbyMagnum.pdf opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Assuming you want to shoot the equivalent of SAAMI .458 Winchester Magnum loads ( 350-gr TSX at 2400 to 2600 fps) while producing much greater recoil with a slow powder from your .450 Rigby ? The .450 Rigby has about 95% of the case capacity of the .460 Weatherby. Barnes Number 3 manual starting load for the .460 WBY with 350-gr XFB: Alliant RL-19 117.0 grains >>> 2867 fps. Reduce that load to 95% = 111.15 grains Just call it 110.0 grains for about 2800 fps in your .450 Rigby. Now slow that powder to 110.0 grains of Alliant RL-22 and you might get about 2600 fps. Use a filler if you want to reduce load from there, on down to 2400 fps. Pierre van der Walt gave an actual brass gross water capacity of cases made by Norma: .450 Rigby: 141.8 grains H2O .450 Dakota: 141.8 grains H2O Identical in Norma brand. This suggests that the .450 Rigby brass is made a little thinner in brass, for the .450 Dakota is a little bigger externally in displacement. My loads for the .450 Dakota with 450-gr TSX should be virtually identical in results for your .450 Rigby with 450-gr TSX if you are using Norma brass. It would certainly be safe to try this, you might even get similar velocities at lower pressure with the 350-gr TSX: 450-gr Barnes TSX, COL 3.735", .450 Dakota: Start: Alliant RL-15 86.0 grains + 5 grains of Dacron polyester fluff-ball filler >>> 2245 fps (5-yard chronograph readings), 25" barrel, 84*F Maximum: Alliant RL-15 100.0 grains with NO FILLER >>> 2554 fps (5-yard chronograph readings), 25" barrel, 84*F Substitute Hodgdon VARGET or H4895 at 86.0 grains starting load with filler and work up You ought to be able to work up to 2400-2600 fps with the 350-gr TSX, and with little more recoil than the SAAMI .458 WIN producing same velocity, by using the faster powders with filler. I don't use Dacron polyester as filler anymore. I use the rolls of foam caulk backer rod from the hardware store, 1/2" diameter for .458 WIN, 5/8" diameter for .450 Dakota, slice wads to desired length with a fillet knife and cutting board. Stuff into case mouth over powder using a pencil eraser or wooden dowel. Go for about 50% compression of the foam wad when bullet seated over wad over powder. Different bullet: With no filler, 450-gr North Fork FP solid (monometal copper), 3.587" COL, same 25" rifle barrel, same 84*F, same 5-yard instrumental velocity: 95.0 grains Varget >>> 2412 fps 100.0 grains Varget >>> 2520 fps 100.0 grains Alliant RL-15 >>> 2594 fps Surely, you could safely get your 2400-2600 fps with the 350-gr TSX in your .450 Dakota, unless your barrel is only 18" long and rusty inside, then it might be questionable.
