Anyone shooting one? What would be the most economical way to build one on a Rem 700 action?

Yes, I have one and putting components together to build another on a CZ550 action. The other one is on a 1909 with a takeoff 375H&H barrel that I had the threads cut off and rethreaded and chambered for the 376...ended up with a 20" barrel that was magnaported and it shoots great and handles even better. 235gr Speers at 2750+ with mild mannered loads did a great job on deer for me...leaves an awesome blood trail.

As for cheapest methods, can't help you there, but with this latest one I have a prethreaded, deep-chambered barrel on order from Lothar Walther that I'll fit on the action and go from there.

With the M700 you'll have to open the bolt face a bit if it's standard, so you'll probably have to have a Sako style extractor installed too...I'd think that will add some expense.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

Mark,
on a rem 700, there's not a economical way.. other than selling it..

here's why.. the case head aint .473 (30-06) or .532 (HH magnum) rathe rit's .500, which requires your smith to open up a 30-06 action.

you could sell the remington, and have an MRC done up, use the long action 3.35 mag, and drop in a winchester takeoff stock.

i've built several 376s.. just love them

I have one, getting close to being finished. Mine has turned into a little bit of work trying to make it feed, I'm getting there, just have to find time to work on it. I did mine on a VZ. Once I get it to feed and get the bb front sight and qtr rib on it will post some pics. The 376 cases feed just fine in all my other mauser except this one, it turned into some work, but I know what I have to do to get it to feed

Jeffe, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a Yugo M48 an intermediate length Mauser? I would think it would be the way to go if you want to use a surplus action on a .376 Steyr project.

Hey Jeffe,

Don't give me any crap about not getting the 376 to feed. I cut under the rail and got it to feed, decided I needed to make sure it was good and slick, so I slicked it up and tried it again...........when I pulled bolt back real fast the top cart bounced off the ceiling............like a savage with a bent mag box....I'm sure you would have liked to been there to laugh.

I have one built on a SS MRC short action (3.125" magazine) with a 23" SS MRC barrel. I love it. I think I may have been the first to order one from MRC as I had to pay for the reamer. Seregenti put all the finishing touches on it. I do not know who did all the feeding work on it but I sent 8 dummy rounds to MRC loaded with270 gtain Swift A-Frames and 270 grain Barnes-Xs and told them feeding was the most important issue with me. Serengeti sent the dummy rounds back with my rifle. MRC now has a footnote that you must get someone else to do the feed work on a 376 Steyr. I am sure that Serengeti is up to the task. Mine holds 4 down and one in the chamber and feeds very nicely. I can even drop one on top of the magazine and it will feed every time. I am averging 2695 at 80 degrees with 270 grain factory Hornady ammo. Less with the 225 grain.
