I have an old RCBS BIG MAX, that I bought years ago. I had only a little RCBS Jr press, which was crowded with a 7mm mag, and was impossible to use on things like 450#2 NE. Wink

If I were to but today, I think it would be one of the single stage AMMOMASTERS from RCBS! However I don't think I'll ever ware the MAX out! beer

I can reccomend the Lee Classic Cast press.

It has one of the larger openings of presses available. And they are not expensive.

If you're used to a "cam-over" type press (like your RC), it takes some getting used to as it has "stops" built into the linkage.

It's just as accurate, just feels different.

I use an old RCBS Rockchucker and it is barely adequate for my 470NE's. In fact the shellholder had to be modified to load them. Not a problem but if it ever wore out (won't in my lifetime) I'd definitely buy something with a larger openong. Loads everything else (375H&H,416Rigby,405win,Etc) with no problems at all.

Specifically for my 470 NE, I just upgraded to the RCBS Ammomaster from my Hornady Lock-N-Load.

416 Rigby and 375 H&H sizing effort like running 308's.

Also bought the Lock-N-Load Adapter and all of my Lock-N-Load bushings work as well.

Plenty of clearance, leverage, smooth operation and built like a tank.

Have been using the first press I ever bought ... an original Rock Chucker from the mid 60's. Just makes it for .470 NE. If I had the available funding I might replace it with the new Rock Chucker or the Ammo Master. Really don't feel the need to do so as the old RC has plenty of leverage for .375 and .416 cartidges as well as the .470.

I use an RCBS Ammomaster A-2 single stage press and never found it too big..I load for most of the Nitro Express rounds and its the only press that I have room enough to work in...None of the other allow me room for seating bullets without manuvering around...It will load 50 BMG ammo if need be...but its great for the 470 etc.

What price range ?

Heres my little beater

Its a Multi Swage press that can also be used to reload on..

The new MultiSwage is intended for home or limited commercial use. It is not just a hand press with a hydraulic cylinder stuck on it but instead is a unique machine designed to do most swaging and reloading jobs at the least cost and with the highest reliability. It is the only press of it's size that can swage any bullet from .224 caliber to the big .700 and reload standard or .50 BMG ammunition. In addition to swaging or reloading the MultiSwage can also extrude lead wire using the optional extruder kit.

It really depends on just how " Crazy" you are

Martin,
that's just "not right"!!! LOL

Don't get me wrong guys, the ammo master is a great press...

but "the" press in some one's reloading room, that can be asked to do 25acp to 357 to 500 NE.. well, there are other, CHEAPER choices, that deliver exactly the same thing... and aren't as large.

the rcbs supreme press is 104.50 right this second.. the ammomaster is 209.99...

or more than twice for zero measurable gain.

I use the AmmoMaster Single Stage Press for all of my handloading. Yes, it's a little big and the lever/handle throw is long but the press works fine for me. When I bought mine, the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme press wasn't being made yet (the one with the new larger opening) if I remember correctly. Still, the AmmoMaster has room to spare and makes manipulating the cases in and out of the press a breeze.

Before RCBS came out with the Supreme, the Redding Ultramag was a good choice -- but it is twice the price of the RCBS. If I didn't have a Corbin Series II, I would have the Supreme.

Every great once in awhile you can find one used .. if you look hard .
Some times you can get one used if you contact
Richard Corbin ..

richard@rceco.com.

Or you can write Richard Corbin at

RCE Co., 4090 Colver Rd., Phoenix, OR 97535.

Or phone richard at
1-541-512-0040

As for the cost of one new .

As listed on his web site

MultiSwage Hydraulic swaging/reloading press
$2,600.00

50 Caliber Punch Holder (needed when swaging .50 BMG or larger bullets) $55.00

Lead Wire Extruder Kit (makes lead wire for bullet cores from scrap lead)
$395.00

You can find more information on this press at his web site under the heading
New Products.

A small note: The tank shown in the picture on the web site is wrong and so is the motor .

The tanks Richard is now using are ..Large..

The motors are mounted on top the tanks

I have been bugging Rich to get a better picture posted up on the web site . so folks can see just how freaking big these tanks are .

To reload shells on the Multi swage press you will need the adapter

Sorry for the fuzzy photos but i am stuck using a confrence camera to take pictures with ..

Hi Martin: YEs, I still use the Series II to make Boer .38-55 bullets. Thinking of swapping it for a Walnut Hill from Richard, though.

I load the 450 No2. It and the 475 No2 are the longest of the Nitro Expresses.
Get the big RCBS press. I also load 450/400 and 9,3x74R on it. It is not too big for them.
For everything else I like the Bonanza Co-Ax.

I got mine on sale someplace, I think is was Huntingtons, but not sure...I have an old Hollywood press that weighs probably 50 lbs or more that I have used for years and its a super press but the window is just too small for even 375 H&H unless I juggle around with it....

The RCBS A-2 single stage, not the auto load is a great N.E. press....The auto load version is considerale more money..
