How much does your .600 Overkill rifle weight??

And I would also want to know how the 900 grain woodleigh SP penetrate? is the penteration better than a 500 grain .458 bullet of the same construction?

I remeber that safarikid shot a buffalo with the .600 OK did he use a soft point or solid bullet?

Sorry for my very bad english!

Interesting question, and I am sure Rob will tell us pretty soon. I would like to add, with or without a recoilbrake?

OK from Sweden, we have built the 600 OK with weights from 9 1/2 lbs. to 15 lbs. The average is 13 to 14 lbs. per customer request. Safarikids 9 1/2 lb. rifle did not have a brake. It is now owned by Trophyhunter5000 who has added a brake and some weight. Safarikid shot the Buff pictured on the home page of our website with the 600 and Woodleigh softs. He found them to be too soft in his opinion with too much expansion. They were designed for 600 Nitro velocities. He went back last fall and shot another Buff using our 800 grain all copper expanding bullet and had complete penetration on a one shot kill. Safarikid might post and add more or correct me if I am in error regarding his hunt.
I should add, the rifle on our homepage is not the 9 1/2 lb rifle. He has built two. The one on our website weighs 10 1/2 lbs. without the brake if I remember correctly.

Overkill,

I fired my 600OK @ 9 1/2 lbs (unbraked) and with loads in the 2100 fps range it was quite uncomfortable, yet controllable....

Safarikid is superhuman in his ability to soak up recoil and it didn't bother him at all....

After the extra weight and the X-Brake were added it is now a pussy cat by comparison and I beleive anyone who could handle a 458 could shoot it now...

Wayne,

How fast are you guys pushing your new 800 gr all copper bullets?

What do you figure is the range of acceptable impact velocities?

Matt V.

Woodleigh softs at 2400fps become smoking balls of lead after 2ft of penetration. I have not shot a Buff with mine yet just one black bear and dozen deer. A broadside shot exited leaving a beer can sized wound channel. Death was Achieved!
I'd imagine a 800gr copper solid would penetrate a ELE stem to stern.
Overkill- build it as light as possible. If SafariKId had only fluted his barrel he could have gotten it down to 8 pounds. I would strongly advise a screw on brake if you don't like breaks. Me I love-em. You can take it( I hope)! The ELGE can't but you can!-Rob

Matt, we have a load we like at 2,100 fps. The bullets perform almost equally well from 1,900 to 2,100 fps. Plenty of expansion at 1,900 which might be an impact velocity depending on range. This bullet, by design, does not expand too much though. It's already .620 diameter. If I knew how to post photos I would of some expanded bullets. Boomie has a photo of them. Boomie, if you're out there, post that photo of my copper bullets, would ya?

My 600 OK weighs 13lbs and 8 oz. It shoots fine with the brake on and 900 grain bullets out to 2330ft/sec.

That 750 grain woodleigh from the .585 Looks real good in my eyes.
And the 900 grain .620 bullet has better SD than the 750grain .585 nullet.

Rob,
How was the effect of that blackbear that you shot with the .600 OK?

So around 13Ibs with a brake should be good?
I also like muzzle brakes Smiler

Alright first I have to start reloading.. Iam thinking of to start now in the spring with my .460.. then when I know how it works then I just have to save enough money for a .600 OK rifle and for the cases/brass..
So maybe year 2010 I will have the rifle Smiler
