Anything wrong with the Shooting Chrony Beta Master Chronograph. Midway has on sale for $115.

Will not get heavy use.

Better one for same price M/L ?

Thanks

Those dangerous stalking chronographs are crafty. I have had to blast a couple myself. One of them only made it one day when my buddy tattooed it with a 600 overkill. That was the end of that!

I'll decent. My buddy has one & it misses far too many shots, something like 50%. The screens are poor quailtiy & small, plus youy are shooting at the guts. I have an oehler, no longer available, & a Pact, also medicore screens. I understand the CED units are very good. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewp...productnumber=773378

Yeah they miss a lot of shots if it's sunny out, but they work. I haven't shot mine, but I did put it too close and blew the tripod over with muzzle blast the first time I shot my 375 H&H through it lol ...

I Always shoot mine with the diffusers in place. I bet I can count on 2 hands the total number of missed shoots from 22lr up to 458. I would pay a couple $$ more and get the Beta Master so the guts are on the bench with you. Safer for them and easier to reset.

Count me in as have taken a "trophy" Chrony. Did it with the first shot of a custom .404 Jeffery.

Still plenty of target with the Beta, I know because ...

Mine misses some shots, and it can be irritating.

My Chrony Master has suffered powder burns and shot sky screens and keeps on ticking. I do agree the connection for the second set of rods and the plastic screen aren't the greatest. Whenever I can I just don't set up the screens.

My dad-in-law's is a mess to set up. That is why I have a Pro Cronograph. For 100 bucks and another purchase of a 20 dollar tripod you can set up in ten minutes and start shooting ( instead of hanging bricks to steady the one you are considering, stringing wires, fiddling with the read-out thingy, masking taping the screens so they stay on under muzzle blast or whatever else you decide to do before you can get a number).

I have the el-cheapo (F1?) Chrony with the remote readout and it works great. I always use the sky screens and I can't recall missing any shots.

Spend the extra $25 and get the carrying case, too.

I guess I should expect Problems after reading about all this Chrony shooting going on, I'm feeling left out. Big Grin
The worst thing I've had happen is blowing the screens off with the muzzle blast of the .338LM and the .50 BMG.
Guess I'll have to try harder rotflmo

I've had the Shooting Chrony F-1 Master for a few years, didn't like the 3-piece diffusers so I superglued them to make 1-piece units out of each of them, and I use wood dowels instead of the metal rods which makes setup much easier and if you hit a rod it won't damage the chrony itself.

Never had a problem with it not reading, but I always use the diffusers.

They recommend shooting at least 8 feet away from the screen to help with muzzle blast. My 700 ahr blew the guts off the table from 12' aways and I have not gotten it to read since then. Its easier to shoot one of the legs than you think if your set up is a little high and you are shooting through it closer to the narrow bottom of the V.

I've had very good luck with Chrony's performance; not so good luck with their impact resistance. Shot one to pieces, nicked the one I use now and shot the wire support off MJines at Hogkiller's once. Had a brain fart and twisted the scope turret the wrong way. Altogether that's not too bad considering the number of rounds I've shot over Chronies.

It sounds like buying an inexpensive one is a good idea as I am sure either one of my buddies or I am going to shoot it.

Hope not but you never know?

Thanks for all the input. I just started reloading a lot again due to pricing and ammo supply.

Do you think we could get SCI to create a catagory for trophy Chrony's? Maybe Saeed will chip in for an Inter Circle award if we shoot five of them.

Better them than Boone & Crockett; those free range Chronys are tough hunting.

A good friend has the beta master, which he calls the master beta, which is whats he wants to do after using it!! He says its a huge pain in the A$$. I bought a Pact X1, got a used tripod at a pawn shop, and love it!! I use a towel on screens on sunny days and dont set it too close and works like a charm. Sure makes guessing about velocities non-existant. My .02

Good luck and good shooting.

Cool, sign me up for an inital score.

Bagged a Beta Chrony with the underbarrel from my 9.3x74R Drilling. Bags sagged - gotta watch out when the barrel is "underneath".

It wasn't charging or even looking aggressive so really didn't need a DG cartridge but it was definately a Bang-Flop!

Right through the Kisser; kinda like a heart shot when you hit the 9-volt battery right behind the screen - perfect penetration with a 286 gr. Hornady Spire Point. Sprayed little blue metal parts all the way down to the 25 meter marker, too!

I guess I shoulda taken a couple Trophy Photos - didn't think about it at the time as the remainder of the Shooting Line wanted me to get the Hell off the range so they could continue shooting while slowly shaking their heads at the Chrony Dweeb.

hilbily

PS - how do you mount them? With the Tripod up or down?

Cheers,

Number 10
