I used to play around with the idea of something similar. What is the tube made of?

I do not know about pea gravel, but I have used, 1-lb. of #4 buck shot, or 72 - .50 cal RB
for shot loads. Normal projectile is a 1 lb. 12 oz. truncated cone, lead shot.

Hog Killer--All you have to do now is mount
it in a big thumbhole stock , and get a bowflex
to get conditioned like that 50 yr old
grandmother.Seriously do you go to the
pumpkin shoots. There's guys in this state that
do that. The 72 50 cal balls is 4 times what
I figured to try in the 2 bore when going.
That is amazing.Looks like 40mm barrel that
Big Sky sells..Ed.

hubel458,

The barrel is right at 6' long, and weighs 114 lbs. The 72ct/.50 load is nearly the same weight as the standard projectile. Powder charge is a duplex BP load, 1/2oz Fg, 2oz Cannon Grade. The barrel is a 1 1/2" smooth bore.

Now, about the recoil, the gun all 256 lbs. of it moves 5 feet at the shot. I did some estimating as to velocity, I will not hazard my crongraph, @ 1400fps. Anyway I ran the numbers through one of the on-line rrecoil calculaters, 486 ft lbs and 11 fps.

I do not think that a Bowflex and stock will work. But feel free to copy any part of this idea, and stock it up, and have someone vidio your effort. wave

I an going to do something as I have an old
heavy wagon axle with heavy wheels, to use.

hubel458,

Some time back, a few guys I know were talking about using this thing on baited hogs. That is why the 50cal. RB load came about. One neat feature about this beast is that it will easily break down for transport.

I am very impressed. I have been slobbering the over the cannons in Dixie's catalog. My wife thinks I am completely crazy for wanting a cannon. But seeing yours just made me want one all the more.

M1,

I also have Tracers for my litlle toy. They are made from/with, pulled M-17 50 BMG projectiles. I cut them down, bore the rear of the cannon projo, and insert. They work great, but you do have to be carefull about the fire hazard. They can and do start fires under the right conditions.

May be some day I will get around to saboted AP stuff, at least whateverm BP will allow.

Hog Killer

PS: The above photo of the ammo is, 458 Lott and the 1 1/2".

That bullet is pretty huge. I must say that is up on the testosterone level of ALF's M2HB on a trailer with seat towed by an atv with a Barrett Semi Auto hanging on the handlebars...

Dose the single slug tumble out of the smooth bore?
Also do you need any specal permits from the BATF ?

The long projetiles shoot straight, not as good as from a rifled barrel, but not bad.

This is a muzzle loader, feds do not worry about such things. 3/4" or 12", does not matter, as long as it is fed from the front.
