Does anyone have experience with this detachable mag system? Wondering how much they weaken a 98 action and if it makes sense with a 416 or 458. http://www.cdiprecisiongunwork...ediate-bolt-spacing/ http://www.cdiprecisiongunwork...8-lapua-5-round-mag/

I bought from them and would again without hesitation. 86thecat, I bought the magnum 98 DBM and it works nicely. I purchased a magazine elsewhere and it holds fill length .300H&H cartridges beautifully. The magazine well was too tight at the inside corners for the magazine. I contacted CDI and they offered to replace it and to make sure my mag fit. Instead, I just filed a little out at the corners and now it works, though snug. I prefer it that way instead of loose. My rifle is at McMillan for stocking. They have had it for about 5 months. It should be back in a month or two. After it comes back it is going out for the metal to be finished. Commercial FN long magnnum action. No alteration of the action was required. .

dude, stop being so open minded. Your brains might fall out. I don't send my hard earned $$$ or stuff out to people I do not know. You sound like that young blonde woman on a TV commercial that says to the guy "It has to be true. I read it on the Internet. They have to tell the truth on the Internet.". The OP did not say he bought one and it was the best thing since sliced bread at the store. He was asking opinions. Mine is, simply put; don't entrust your belongings to an unknown. About 15 years ago I sent a rifle and reamers to a gentleman to have the rifle rechambered. Four months later, I had not heard from him. Could not contact him via his supplied phone number, no response to Email, or snail mail. I finally called the Sheriff's department. Turns out, this fine young man had married some woman he met in a bar, about two weeks after they first met. Took her home, and she never left. They get into a pissing contest, and she files a restraining order on him. Here he is, cannot get into his shop, because it is next door to the house, and he cannot come within 300 feet of her or the house. His entire customer database is in a computer in his shop, as are a couple dozen firearms in process. I ended up having to go to our county courthouse, file a sworn affidavit in front of one of your magistrate judges on video, that I needed my rifle back, and requesting that they consider sending him out to the shop with a deputy escort, to retrieve his computer, and send my rifle back. Fortunately, the judge there decided there was merit in my application. The work had been done, it was waiting on payment to ship back. He called me from his shop and told me he would send the rifle and reamers back, and to just wait until the rifle arrived and send payment to the address shown. Shit happens. This woman might have decided to take all of those firearms to a gun show and sell them anonymously to trusting buyers. No record kept, what would he have done? Shit even happens here. I have a friend who decided to have some work done by a respected member here nearly two years ago. Rebarrel and custom dies. He still does not have all of the work done and his stuff all back as far as I know.

Is that trigger guard & floor plate with latch for DBM all steel? Alloy with a steel latching lever? Either way or whatever, it must be investment cast and properly heat treated, eh? To be offered for such a reasonable cost in so many diferent actions, and sizes, it must be minimal in the machining involved (precision cast), and ought to be easy enough to fit it to your rifle yourself. It is considerable bother to have to ship your rifle in to have it fitted. I'd buy right now if I did not have to ship a rifle to get it fitted. Can you order the parts and fit them to your rifle yourself? They do say this on the website: "We are always making bottom metal, Pre-Order anytime and we will ship you your parts as soon as they are ready. http://www.cdiprecisiongunwork...ystems-bottom-metal/ And more here: http://www.cdiprecisiongunwork...stall-shop-services/ "Just purchase CDi Bottom Metal directly from CDiPrecision, from Midway USA or Stockys Stocks, and also from other dealers and you will be qualified to either send CDiPrecision your stock for the FREE Stock Inletting Service or you can send us your complete rifle for the FREE Complete Installation Service. Bottom Metal Purchases can be Inletted or Installed at your convenience. **Return Shipping and Ship Insurance will apply**" Great idea for M70 Winchester LA too, I could use those, one each for both H&H and Lapua-based cartridges. For $299 plus S&H ($209 BM installed plus a $90 .338 Lapua AICS, 5-down mag) sure beats 1K$ for a Sunnyhill-McMillan combo to get 3-down with .338 Lapua. I would be happy with filing in a tight fit too. "Winchester 70 Post 64 Long Action Magnum DBM. This allows use of AICS mags in your Winchester 70 Long Action Rifle. This DBM Uses Ai 300 Win Mag or 338 Lapua Magazines. Install is required, and we can provide inletting and install servces as well. Installs are free at CDiPrecision, so click Install option and send your rifle in for install. Easy and fast. 3 week turnaround or faster. US Addresses only. Mags Must be purchased Separatley." "Genuine AI 338 Lapua 5 round magazine. Will run other rounds as well, WSM rounds and odd stuff. Call for application. OAL max 3.600" on rounds." Here is one I could use on a Ruger Hawkeye in 6.5 Creedmoor along with the 10-round AICS .308 WCF magazines: Only $80 for this 10-round AICS mag for .308 is a great price: Riflecrank Internationale Permanente NRA Life Benefactor and Beneficiary https://home.nra.org/

RIP: Will a 308 AICS mag fit the Ruger Precision rifle? I'm looking to use the 5 round mag in my Precision in 6.5 creedmoor. Our rifles here in Canada are sold with 10 shot Ruger scout mags, something to do with our dumb magazine regulations

Alf, Yes, the AICS mags work in the RPR. They also give you a wee bit more room for C.O.L. with the 6.5 Creedmoor, using the AI mags. You will be able to seat closer to the lands if handloading. Hornady factory ammo works fine in the plastic or steel mags supplied by Ruger with the Scout Rifle (.308 WCF). They all work in the RPR. I have both Ruger scout rifle in .308 WCF and the RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor. 5-shot and 10-shot mags of plastic supplied by Ruger, plastic Magpul-made PMAGs, or steel mags from AI all work interchangeably in the RPR .308 or 6.5. Most shooters seem to like the plastic 5-shot or 10-shot Magpul PMAG just fine. Me too. I just have one of the 10-shot steel AI mags, in case I want to seat the 6.5 Creedmoor to longer C.O.L., if I ever exhaust the latest case of factory ammo. Grenadier, Thanks for the after-shop-hours info. The one I want to start with was sold out at Midway USA, and $10 more expensive there. I will indeed call CDi directly. Sounds like it will be a snap to fit it myself. Riflecrank Internationale Permanente NRA Life Benefactor and Beneficiary https://home.nra.org/

Jeffeosso I have a Herters/CZ 98 action which was 7mm Rem Mag, looking into having it rebarrelled to 416 Ruger or possibly Win Mag if this bottom metal allows that. Wondering if this bottom metal would be a good choice for the 416 Ruger or Rem Mag as a walk around/fishing gun for an Alaska trip. Five down would be comforting.

RIP: thank you for that Up here in Canada we have huge problems getting Magpul mags because of really dumb gun law rules. I can get AICS from Wolverine supplies

I recently built a 404 Jefferys with a permently extended magazine to hold 6 rounds with one up top for 7..Dennis Olson did the work, but it was not detachable.. I don't trust detachable mags as they tend to fall out at the most inopertune moments..I have had that happen several times, but fortunately not with a Dangerous Game animal as I wouldn't use one for DG in the first place..JUst my opinion and Im sticking to it.. No, the one I had was already done. Ray, the AICS mag setup is solid and proven by hundreds of thousands of man hours on safari in Iraq and Afghanistan.
