When I was at the NRA convention in Milw. This week end and stopped by the Remington booth. I didn't not see the sparten double.

I asked a couple of repts. there and they both said they decided not to bring it because they don't know when they well be getting them.

They said there is lots of interist in them but getting them built is another story.

So don't look for them any time soon.

Am I missing something here? I thought that the goal of a business was to produce a product that consumers wanted to buy.
So, here is a product, the Spartan double rifle, that seems to be a very wanted item and Remington can't get it produced. Now, what was it called?, the Electronix or some such nonsense, an electrically fired cartridge, that nobody seemed that interested in (except the various gun magazines), was quickly produced and lasted about 2 years.
Is there some reason I am missing here, why a company, Remington in this case, won't get their heads of you know where and produce something that seems would sell well?
Or it could be that I am just an idiot and think that as a manufacturer you produce what people will buy. Roll Eyes

apparently a durability/warranty issue or liability at stake, this seems to justify why some doubles costs what they do

it's too bad a company like CZ, Stoeger or others are not on to this. Kurt.

When one thinks of it, it's a lot more difficult to build a double rifle for $500 (or whatever the price is) than to build one for $10,000.

Obviously there's a different skill involved and a very different art involved and a totally different customer.....but to make a "safe and functional" double rifle for that price isn't as easy as it seems.

I'm cutting Remington a little slack here.....but it is they that said it'll be out (when?)

We haven't seen any of the 798 or 799 models either and we know they was being produced before Remington bought the importing rights.....now what are we to think? Was C Daly importing something unsafe?

Remington no doubt wants this rifles more than any of you do, you can't sell what you don't have. The problem is REMINGTON is NOT MAKING these guns Baikal is and even if they are putting your name on something, you have a very limited ability to expedite something built in someones elses factory. I have had the same experience several times. I know you guys enjoy kicking Remington around as often as possible, but having gone through the same experience I know its not in their power to expedite, unless they were to say, we don't care about safety, quality or finish, just ship them in any condition and the lawyers are not going to let that happen.

The issue I have is that the folks at Remington keep saying "Next Month", or "Next Fall". I think if they would just tell people the truth this thread would disapperar!

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Might have something to do with building a "decent" usable double rifle for a budget price ..........

Speaking of Remington: I was in Briley Mfgr's shop almost 20 years ago and they were hand making Parker 20ga doubles for Remimgton's approval,. Only now are we finally seeing some mention of them by Remington. Talk about a ponderous organization. Remington has owned Parker since Hector was a pup but they couldn't do the work themselves, Bril;ey had to do it for them. At least Winchester could get product out the door...WSSMs that noone wanted.

Congo:

yes, you are definitely missing something here. The only purpose of a business is to make money. If it were easy (ok, possible) to make a functional double rifle for little money then it would have been literally over 100 years ago.

I didn't have any luck getting one from EAA, either. Also, I did not get any straight answers from EAA; they played the "maybe in Fall of..." game, too.

I'm reminded of a guy and his girlfriend getting hot and heavy in the guy's volkswagen beetle.....finally the gal jumps out and runs to the ditch yelling.....hurry up and get here before I get out of the notion.....the guy yells back "Hell! I got to get out of the notion before I can get out of here!!!"

It's going to be that way with this double too....by the time it gets here the customer will have moved on......wanting something else.

Out of the notion so to speak!!!
