Got my 2009 Cabela's Shooting Catalogue yesterday. Showing 416 Ruger ammo at 62.99$ for both the DSX and DGX. Not too shabby! Less then 10$ more then the 375 Ruger, but nearly 30$ cheaper then 416 Rigby. This is where Ruger, IMO, was in a tight spot with the 416 Ruger. Price and availibility will make or break this new cartridge. Price is good, now lets see what the stocks will be like when ammo starts hitting shelves!

My Natchez catalog last week had them listed at $60, but on sale for $52. That was a great price, and the cheapest I have seen. They said they were in stock and would ship immediately. I bought 2 boxes of each, and they should be delivered tomorrow. Midway and others kept listing them as "coming soon".

52$ is even better! Jeez, with prices like that its cheaper to shoot a Ruger big bore then it is to shoot my 300 Wby! Thats IF I shot factory, of course, which I don't....but ya'll get the point lol

I have not kept up with these new Ruger developments. What case is this new .416 ruger derived from, or is it an entirely new case. How much work to rework a Mauser action to take the .416 Ruger case.

its based off the 375 Ruger. the cases are similar to the RUM cases, but cut down to 30-06 length. your mauser would be a very easy conversion. open the bolt to standard .532 face, maybe a little feed work and a new barrel. or you can get the Ruger Hawkeye for about 850$

no ,, MHS-- nothing like a rum case, in any way, and highly unlikely to be confused with a jeffery case Smiler

the 375 ruger is a .532 base diameter, beltless case, that is then shaped as a normal case. it is unique in design, and no, really, you can't make spec ruger brass from the old newton brass, though you COULD lathe turn down ruger brass to make newton.

it has about the same capacity as the 375 WEATHERBY ,.. notice the 3-7-5 webby, not the 378, which is slightly more than a 375 hh.

in the case of the 416, which is the 375 necked out, it will have slightly more case than a 416 rem, but in a standard length action.\

like my AR rounds, while they can fit in a mauser 98 action, only select few actions, and most commerials, would be a choice for these, due to pressure. Yes, lawd, yes, there are 458 winmags on 1909s.

all in all, its 5 grains smaller than my 416 AR, which doesn't mean squat, and is a commerical case

Jeffe

So my magnum Mark X action would be a good candidate for either the .375 or the .416?

i think so.. the ruger 375 and 416 are excellent std length candidtes the 415 ruger, for all real purposes, is basically a twin of my 416ar .. and the AR makes 2400 no problem.

Neal, Hary, Mike, and I all have 458s on mausers

The 416 Riuger will over take the 416 rem mag and the 416 Rigby and Weatherby as far as sales. In these ecomic times its all about the price. With a 416 under $1000 and the ammo at $60 something dollars as a big bore it will have alot of sales. But sales in a big bore are way less than say a 270 .I am glad the 416 Ruger came out.It lets alot more shooters such as ones in Alaska afford a good 416.I wish they could put a HS stock on it.I have two on my 416 Rem mag model 700s they are awesome stocks.
