I like the thumb cut-out on the military mausers and want a 500 built on one. Let's assume that all actions are good, clean and suitable for a custom gun. Let's also assume that the bottom metal is of no value. which one would you choose to start with? CZ? Persian? 1909? Add any others you would throw into the decision... those are just thought starters. What would your "target weight" be for the finished rifle?

1909, but I would get it re-heat treated.

I am sure you mean 500 jeffe, not 505... again, I would NOT do this one, due to prices later... 495 a2 would be great, though jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? I'd probably go with the CZ. It is a major rework, and you'd toss what makes a 1909 nice. I just don't like the idea of re-heat treating the actions, and the CZ's I've used seem to be real tough. I'm also thinking of picking up a lothar walter pre-chambered 500 barrel and fitting it to VZ action, of a second 500 Jeffrey. With the investment in dies and brass, building a second relativel sparten rough duty gun makes sense, well, as much sense as having two 500's makes __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

CZ550 and one of Ed Plummers single stack mags. This is flat out the best way to go reliably with a 500 Jeffery. You might be able to modify a M98 to work with the AHR SS mag box, buy you still going to have to cut up into the front receiver locking lug area to get this cartridge to fit. I know because I've done it. If you use a M98 you will need to have it re-heat treated otherwise it will set the lugs back in the receiver in very short order. If you don't use the SS mag box you had better find a smith who has done this conversion SUCCESSFULLY ( i.e it will feed reliably). Otherwise you'll become just another tale of Woe on this board!-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

What's the problem with the 505 Gibbs? Have I missed something here? (highly likely) / Rikard
