You cannot believe everything you read in the Barnes manual. [Roll Eyes]

The carry method that Mike375 describes was used by my PH in Botswana with his M98 Mauser 375 H&H. He left the safety in the fire position, a round in the chamber, and the bolt pushed forward but not turned down. It is a silent and fool proof way to carry in your hands, or "African Carry," but certainly not with a sling, where the more protuberant bolt position dangling and swaying might snag or open the action.

I don't like PC's decocking on a live round in the chamber for carry either, and would rather use the method Mike 375 describes, or a three position safety properly done, or an empty chamber until loading is called for, which is best of all.

I am discouraging trying to go for the 7-shooter instead of the 6-shooter CZ 550 Magnum. Not necessary.

.470,

Thanks for that tip, I did not know that this was an unsafe procedure. I will refrain from this practice. Funnily enough the procedure Mike mentions, chambering a round and leaving the bolt up is the method I have always used, I have never used a safety but just practiced the "round chambered bolt up procedure" only in my last couple of outings had been doing the pull the trigger and close the bolt on a round thing. I did think that was safe, but I will NEVER do it this way again [Embarrassed]

.470,

the figures you provide for the .375 H&H and the other two .375 Hot rods for me persoanlly provides evidence that the .375 H&H is probably the best balanced cartridge as far as recoil & power are concerned. This opinion of mine has been developed in only 11 rounds or .375 H&H ammo being shot.

I would consider selling my 30/06 and having 2 .375's set up for different applications this is how much potential I see for the .375 H&H for the type of shooting I do.

To be honest dagga 7 or 6 .375 rounds does not make that much difference to me, but I would like just to be able to get the bolt over the top of the 6th round in the mag so I could have a six shot .375 with an empty chamber. My particular cz is so close to allowing the bolt to go over the top of the 6th round in the mag it's not funny, it really is only a bee's foreskin from allowing the bolt to slide over the top of 6 [Big Grin] .

Hi PC
I've never used the meathod that Mike described. I usually end up with my rifle slung over my shoulder while hiking into an area so have always had the bolt closed with either the safety on and one round in the chamber or if it's an area that is fairly open I'll go with an empty chamber.
The 375 is a really balanced round and a very good choice. I was reading African Rifles and Cartridges on the medium bores and Taylor has nothing but praise for it. Here are a couple of quotes for you from Taylor book.

"Undoubtedly one of the deadliest weapons in existence. It heads the list from the point of view of its caliber, and in the opinion of many hunters ought to easily head it from the point of view of its power also."

" Altho my formula gives this rifle a Knock-Out value of 40 points, I must regretfully admit that does not really do full justice to it."

Take care,
