Guys,

I am building a 500 Jeff.

I have been waiting for the permit for the last 18 months. The permit might be issued with in the next couple of months.

In South Africa we do not have many actions to choose from.

I have spoken to Truvelo, they are building a Big 5 action for the big calibers but I know nothing about their dependability.

I know of CZ 550 Magnum actions that is on order. After a lot of research this looks like a viable option. At almost $1000.00 US

What about the P14 Action?

Remember that it is very difficult to import actions to the RSA.

All I want is a dependable action that is not going to malfunction when I need it most.

Thanks

Gerhard

you want the vektor action, made in the rsa, as they make one for the 500 jeffe...

this CAN be made on just about any standard 98, but few smiths can do it properly...

get the vektor, and have them barrel and feed it

Lon Paul, one of the greatest builders of big bore custom rifles, likes the CZ 550 Magnum for application to 500 Jeffery.

I have it from a fellow forum member who has been talking to Lon Paul lately about building a 500 Jeffery: Mr. Paul recently built himself a 500 Jeffery on the CZ 550 Magnum.

It really makes more sense to use a magnum action.

Ought to be some pics around the net of Lon Paul's personal 500 Jeffery built on a CZ 550 Magnum ...

Stuart Satterlee could certainly handle the chore with one of his actions too. Do a "Search" of AR.com for his description of the feed work for a 500 Jeffery.

Feast your eyes on the Lon Paul 500 Jeffery built with a CZ 550 Magnum action. Think this one beats an RSM? The Ultimate CZ 550 magnum?

I love the quarter rib with a fold down single leaf and a peep sight on the rear bridge. clap

RIP, I appreciate you posting those pics, another place for me to look at them. I am gathering parts for Lon now. I have a "donor" CZ 550 .375. (Anyone need a CZ 550 brown laminated stock?) Wood is almost settled. He is building me a rifle like the one in the photos except: tang safety(look on his website at the Lott with the strap-over-comb), either H&H or WR style front sight protector, 24 inch barrel, I might do an Island sight insteat of a quarter rib. The rifle in the photo weighs 10.5 lbs. He killed a cape buffalo at over 100 yards with it using 535gr. Woodleighs. Why the long action. Ability to seat out 570-600gr. bullets at 2150-2250. This is in preparation for a trip using a .404 "African Sheep Rifle" and a .500J. sweet. gduffey

Hi Gary,
I'll take that stock if you really want to sell it. You might want to keep it for a beater on your 500 Jeffery, however. I'll give you some time to think it over. Wink

RIP,

Thats an awesome rifle.

I just want a plain working rifle that I can trust.

The CZ 550 Magnum seems to be the way to go.

I'd save myself a world of grief and build a single stack mag or buy one from AHR for that 500 Jeff on a CZ550. Drop box and you can hold four down. ThatLon Paul gun is nicely executed. I particularily like the rear bridge and the adjustable open rear sight. well thought through.-Rob
