What do you think? Is that next? A true 500 gr. @ 2150 - 2200FPS offering in a std sized action? Is this market segment to small and specialized to develop such a cartridge? EZ

Ditto's buckeyeshooter With AA2230 powder and a 22-24inch barreled 458wm 2150fps is not a problem with conventional 500grain bullets. "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"

I would think the Ruger case would hold a bit more powder than the Winchester case making these velocities easier to achieve. That said? There was already a 375 H&H; 375 Ruger There was already a 416 Rem; 416 Ruger My point is it has not stopped them yet.

yes, but... the 458 ruger could work, however, in today's lawyer run world, the headspace would be considered minimal... .532 case, which, in reality, is close enough to .528 to call it a baseline -.458, leaves .070 total. -.030 for neck thickness .040 total -.010 for taper .030, or .015 per side.. which is LESS than what i got on the 470 ar (brass thickness as it stretcheh) can it be done? sure.. why not ... can it beat/match the lott? I LOST a little velocity on the 470 AR due to smaller shoulder/neck than the 458. I think a 2200 fos 3.35",oal .485 bullet chunker is perfect... so i built it! opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Why not just come up with a new bullet diameter that would work, like say a .440 Ruger?

I own a cz 550 458 Lott and it can push a 500gr solid bullet at 2320 fps it does what the 500 does and more.

A .458 derivative cartridge of the .375/.416 Ruger case is doable, the shoulder will be slightly better than the 10.75x68 Mauser cartridge, but it most likely will never see the light of a factory cartridge. A .440 derivative would provide better shoulder for headspacing than the .458 but the 11.2 Schuler (.440” diameter bullet) was not a commercial success – most likely wouldn’t be a commercial success as a Ruger derivative either. A .435 derivative of the .375/.416 Ruger case is the largest bullet diameter that might see the commercial light of day. The .425 Westly Richards (.435” bullet diameter) was highly popular in Africa in the early 20th century even with its small rebated rim. Also, Woodliegh still offers the original 410gr bullet weights in SN and FMJ (.310 SD) as well as 450 gr bullets (.340 SD) designed for Australian David Walkers’.435 PH Express. That 450gr was a special run, like the 950gr 0.585" pills where a special run and the 0.530" pills as well. Personally I thing Ruger/Hornady will need to go to a different case if they want a 45cal, a la the 458AR. I don't think we'll see a 45cal, the African client market is now well covered with a versatile allrounder 0.375"cal in the 375Ruger, plus a 0.416"cal for anyone wanting to specialise in bigger game. Cheers... Con
