In one of my previous post responses the comment was made that a .50 cal will hit game harder. (ie 500 Jeffery vs 450 Rigby) Does anyone have any real world comments regarding this statement.

.500gr in a .458 vs 600gr in a .510.. vs .700gr in a .550... was there really a question ???

I have shot buffalo with .416 Rigby, .458 WM, .470 NE, and .500 NE. Of those calibers, the only one that consistantly produced a visible effect on the target was the .500 NE. I realize that this is purely subjective, but the that .500 NE hammers the hell out of them when hit right. It really shakes 'em up. IMHO it is THE buffalo gun. It ain't too shabby for elephant either!

I have only shot 5 "buffalo" of 3 species on 2 continents that weighed somewhere between 1300 and 1900 lbs on the hoof.

Used .375 H&H, .416 Rigby, 460 Weatherby, and 500 A2/.510JAB.

The only "buffalo" that got flipped over sideways on impact was struck with a bullet like this: .510-cal/570-grain/2405fps
