Put about 10 or 15 grains of pistol or shotgun powder in the 460 case, cover with cornmeal or something like it, stuff the neck with toilet paper to hold the cornmeal in, fire it in the A2 chamber, pointed in a safe direction of course. Clean up the case, trim to length if necessary and you are good to go. Nothing fancy or scientific but that's how I do it and it works for me. I've used the same method for making 458Lott from excess 375H&H cases. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

What fla3006 said. The only qeustion on that is, I don't know if 15 grs. (depending on powder type) will do it. I have used 18 grs. of Unique to blow 8 M/M Rem Mag cases to .450 Ackley Mag. If you can shoot the fireform loads outside, hold the rifle vertical. Absolutely clean, clean, clean after the fireforming. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. Its easier than you think. Simply run your 460wby brass through the .500a2 expander. Use some imperial sizing lube on the inside of the case mouth to minimize the expanding effort. Then Load up a good .500a2 load seat a .510 bullet and go shooting. It headspaces on the belt so dont worry at all about the neck. Once youve fired it you have picture perfect 500a2 cases. They generally need no trimming either.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

you'll have to experiement with the amount of powder if you use cornmeal... I making my 500 AR cases (and all the 40 something ARs) i have tried die forming and fireforming.. I LIKE fireforming more, but die forming is pretty fast. In my case, i would use enough pistol powder (you will need to start with 15 and workup) and cornmeal .. a packing peanut on top helps... but use a pistol mop/brush in teh chamber after every shot as the cornmeal WILL dent the cases.. die formed and fired, just start with KNOWN safe middle loads jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? If you use bulleseye and cornmeal, stick the case mouth in a bar of soap to seal it. It adds a little lube to prevent the corn meal from possibly abraiding your rifling. -Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

HI Rob, I used wax to plug the case mouths. I would leave the cornmeal short of the neck, line up twenty or thirty cases and then hold a large square over top with a small torch to melt it and let it run into the case mouths. This has always produce a good fire formed case. Take good care, Dave

What a bunch of BS!!!! Just seat some boat-tailed-ball-milsurp 50BMG bullets (650 to 700 grains, whatever) into your 460Wby cases with 100 grains of 4350 whether AA, IMR, or H. The boattail on the milsurp ball will neck it up from .458 to .510 as the bullets are seated. You now have excellent plinkers for 1000 yard shooting while fire-forming.

I love this picture. One of the neatest things about the big 50s is the ability to plink with surplus BMG bullets. And you can get pretty damn near the power of the Browning if you want.
