Illigitimi non carborundum.

Mastering long range shooting with your sporting 50 makes everything else easy.

You will then laugh at Ganyana's 9.3x62 recommendation for cape buffalo.

This is probably the most direct route, right here.

nice pointy 525 grain bullets for the .505 gibbs.

Should have no problem shooting out to 300 yards with these and no crazy extra way too long to feed 750 grain target bullets. Good question, good discussion and I think here is one viable answer.

These TSX bullets are being discussed in .375 right now in another thread, sounding like real good killers:

I don't have a horse in this race, and the discussion is beyond my area of expertise. When it comes to long range for me that is anything beyond 50 yds! But I did see something mentioned about 416 bullets and Barret, and 416 Rigby by Boomstick and RIP. Here are some sample 416 Barret bullets sent to me to do a little test work with. The HP is certainly designed for "DG", most likely the two legged variety, and it works too! A special NONCON type bullet.

I have been shooting the .500a2 with 750gr A-max's for probably 20 years now. This isnt a new idea. Even at 2100fps it has a trajectory like a rainbow and kicks plenty hard. It would not be my first choice for any long range work. Its single shot only since the bullets too long, but fun nevertheless. I did test it at our 600yrd range and it was not very impressive. Good luck estimating a 6ft drop and 3ft drift in the field.-Rob

The 750 amax is a good long range round but acts like a full metal jacket unless you hit heavy bone. We double lunged a cow bison at 100 yards with a 50bmg(amax) and she didn't even blink. Perfect shot placement. The only way you knew she was hit is because two bulls ran up, one on either side of her and held her up. No bullet expansion at all. I had two video cameras record the shot from different angles. I think slowing that bullet down another 600fps will be even less impressive. The only good hunting bullet I've found for the BMG is the 647tsx. That thing is scary.

We've killed 5 bison with the 50bmg and I have it all recorded on tape. Head shots are the most impressive. One of the bison we used a tracer round and gave it a head shot. When you slow the footage down it looks like a laser beam from star wars going through the head.

These are farm raised bison just up the road from where I live. It's not hunting by any means. We just kill them for the meat. It's much funner than going to the grocery store or buying a side of beef. Much better eating as well.
