Just curious if any of you fellas have shot both styles in one of the heavier hitters, .416 Rigby, Lott, etc. What was your impression of the difference? I'm not asking for aesthetic opinions, just practical advice on how the two designs handle recoil and line up for scope and irons. Thanks! Bill, Being the manly man that I am, I notice no recoil difference. The Lux "Euro-hogback" is surely the best compromise stock you can get for use of both irons and scope. I prefer it to the "American" style fatboy. I like the CZ "Kevlar" stock best of all.

i like the hogback for irons and the american for scopes .. i did learn to shoot "german" with my head more veritcal .. it works.. a lott in a hogback might be brisk. i like the grip of the hogback, in any case, better than the american .. rip named it well .. its FAT opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? The CZ 550 in 458 Win Mag that I had, was with the "Hog Back". I never put a scope on it so can not speak of how it shot or felt when being shot with a scope, but shooting iron's, it was some what enjoyable. Even the rocks don't last forever.

On my 416 Rigby (CZ) I had no problems with a scope on the hogback stock and recoil was very manageable. I did replace it with an American stock but also had Westpac wack a couple of inches off the barrel and install a muzzle brake. Again, no problems with scope alignment or recoil. I have a hogback stock on my .375 H&H. I have no problems with scope height using a Leupold 1.5x5 Vari X III in Warne medium quick release rings. Recoil is mitigated very well. BH1 There are no flies on 6.5s!

The Bavarian stock shape (Hogback) rolls the recoil upward while the American directs recoil straight back. It's a matter of preference or what you grew up with. I tried two Bavarian CZ's in .416 Rigby. I like the Bavarian look but prefer the American.

I like the "hogback" design. My .416Rigby had one and now my 500AccRel is sporting the same one. The recoil of the Rigby was mild and very comfortable in my opinion with the euro style stock. With the 500 I will be trying both the American and hogback to see which one is the most comfortable with it. Rodney.

With the hogback there is more muzzle flip (the mechanics of it so spare me the anecdotal feelings crap ). I much prefer a straight stock for calming recoil. I like my Hogback. It's been cut a bit to fit me, and made more of a straight back recoil design. The second question is what do you think of the quality of the stocks from Europe, vs. the American stocks? My observations so far have been I'd rather have the Turkish Walnut, and stocks made in Euro then the stocks I've seen made by CZ USA, though I haven't got my hands on one of the kevlar/whatever stocks.
