Thought I would post some new pictures.

Top is my 458 Lott, 24" Shilen #5 barrel, Lyman 48 receiver sight (ghost ring), Rust blued.

Bottom is my 375 H&H, 24" Shilen #4 barrel, Lyman 48 receiver sight (ghost ring), Redfield Widefield 3-9 with Pilkington QD lever.

Both have NECG Masterpiece front sights.

Close up of Lyman 48 and mounted scope.

Left side showing Pilkington QD lever.

HK: Those look like a pair of no-nonsense working rifles if I ever saw any. What's the weight of your Lott, topped up?

Bill, it is 9# 12 oz, empty. Fully loaded, sling, 3+1+9(ammo carrier) I would guess it would add at least another pound and a half.

Working/using rifles is just what I was wanting. thumb

Very nice. The Model 30's are great rifles. Ready to hunt anything on earth with that combo.

The great thing about the way the 375 H&H sights and scope are set up. The receiver sight does not need to be adjusted after removing the scope. It is sighted in with plenty of clearance for the scope tube.

The Pilkington QD lever works better than I thought it would. Thank to jawheeler for having an unused one he was willing to sell me.

I thhink my .30 cal rifles will spend this hunting season back in the "toy box". With the 375 getting the nod.

Well, I think the 375 is going to be a shooter. clap Western Super X 270gr SP, will shoot into 1 MOA. Should shoot even tighter with NFs or other top end bullets.

Thanks TC, They are the later production Model 30Ss, they have the nicer stock style, bolt guide, and they cock on open. This is one case where a manufacter improved the model instead of cheaping production. They had it right back then.

They are very nice rifles, I have handled the 458.

However when he is around the DRSS we have him duct tape them together. Big Grin

No Tony, when I am around the DRSS guys and there is shooting going on. I love getting to shoot those classic DRs and the new ain't bad either. The great thing about the DRSS members, is that they are nice guys and will share their toys(& ammo).

If the Spartans work out, then I will be in the po' boy DRSS. lol

Fantastic! I still say and I know you don't agree, but a 300 H&H would cap off those two perfectly!

I think that will lead to the never ending cycle of, 300 Mag, then 50 something, then 40 something, then....

IF I could, I would be very happy getting/having a 450-400 NE DR, and calling it good for big bores.

I forgot to add, that both rifles have Timney triggers to replace the two stage original triggers. Nothing wrong with two stage triggers, but it is "best" to have them all the same, so as not to get a suprise. shocker

Not in the near future, but maybe someday. Most likely it would be a 300Wby, as I have LOTS of new brass, dies, etc... The Wby does date back to 1944, and the 30Ss were built until 1940. So they are from the same period. I just do not see enough difference between the '06 and the 300H&H to get interested(180fps). If not a Wby, then would just leave it an '06.

Those are quite handsome. I love the Model 30. I have a 30S built into a 460 G&A and a well used Carbine Model in '06.

I had a beautiful, unmodified and undrilled 30S that was stolen in 1986. I still ache over that one.

Is the 460 Barrel quite long or the 30-06 very short or a bit of both? Wink I've no doubt that the longer barrel aids offhand steadiness but it looks long enough to be unwieldy in close situations ?? I've a wee bit of a hankering for the 460 G&A after lusting after it in said mag many moons ago & a P14 action into which it might go or the shorter 450 G&A. What action work was needed to accommodate the 460?

Shinzo- The 460 has a 25" barrel which I don't find too long at all. I specified this length to maximize performance and I can't really tell the difference between a 22" barrel and one a mere 3" longer in the field. The LoP is also about 3/4" longer than the 22" Carbine so it is nearly 4" longer in OAL.

The action rails were opened a bit and the bolt face relieved. Had to build up the follower just a tad for the fatter case.
