Sorry, I always do this when I find something I love, but is this not a scare rifle for a less-than atrocious price? Granted, it may have had a few changes over the years (scope???), but last one I saw was about $7K higher than this one... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=110019929 Seriously, if I could front it, I'd sell everything in my safe and shoot this as my only rifle for life.

PS: What's the safety? | |||

It has a two-position side safety like a CZ 550 Magnum. Not a bassackward BRNO anyway. The ebony forend tip seems to have been installed by a fourth-grader with chewing gum. A third-grader with Elmer's Glue could have done better. Looks like an old enough gun to be a reworked BRNO ZKK 602, or maybe too old for that. Rigby is known to have done such as that. Oops! That front receiver ring has been cut on top to allow loaded cartridges to be inserted from the top ... may be an opened up standard milsurp M98 ... but the ejection port is not similarly cut on the side ... I don't know, obviously. Sumbuddy do a screenshot calibration and measure the distance between centers of the action screws. The description is very unhelpful with details on the action. One would think if it had a Magnum Mauser action (Oberndorf or Brevex) it would be mentioned. Seller did mention the "sites" on the barrel, and I assume he means the kind used for aiming. For the starting bid desired of $12,500 (no bids yet), I would rather have a Johannson made with a Prechtl action and German claw mounts. I have a congenital inability to extend my pinky finger. Germans beat British in bolt rifles.

I'd be prepared to stick my neck out & say definitely ZKK602. The bolt shroud, bolt stop & safety is certainly from that, even though the safety seems to have been modded to work the other way around. Rigby did use ZKK602s to build their 416s on back in the 70 & 80s AFAIK. It looks as though they have milled off the front dovetails to give a classic Mauser style receiver ring & the rear ones to emulate a Mauser square bridge. I reckon its quite elegant in its own way. I built a 416 Rigby on a 602 & never felt the need to notch the receiver ring, but I did grind a crescent out of the right front of the rear bridge to aid ejection. It worked well like this. The floor plate & trigger guard are pure 602 & the overall proportion is too long to be an opened up ZKK600 IMHO. I like the foresight. Wish it were mine. Steve

may be the WORST Rigby RIgby i've ever seen... look that the 3/16 gap from "quarterrib" to receiver. Its a reworked 602, wonder what they did with the safety. WOW, the cheekpiece is ugly and awkward opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
