One thing not mentioned here is the little shelf on either side of the action alongside the rear ring on these "clipped" Westleys.
They appear to be soldered in place.
I don't remember what this looked like on mine - don't recall if I ever took it out of the stock actually.
Must be related to the clips but I don't know their function.

It would be interesting to see a photo of the action out of the stock to see how the clips are attached.

shootaway,

Ha ha ha, as if you did not understand English ...

Your drawing is overly simplified.
According to it, the .458 Winchester Magnum, with leade-only throat would have zero "throat jump."

However, I am going to change the terminology from "Bullet Jump" to "Slug Jump"
because I have 2 bachelor's degrees and one doctoral degree from various universities (U.K. and F.S.U.),
that covered general studies, chemical engineering, accounting, and medicine.

"Slug Jump" is the best way to describe the overall throat length of a rifle chamber.

It is applicable regardless of bullet ogive specifications.
It is a universal comparison of one throat to another.

It is the distance that a slug or perfect cylinder of "caliber diameter" for that rifle can move from maximum brass length for that cartridge
to first contact of groove diameter in the leade of that rifle chamber.

For example, the "Slug Jump" of the .458 Winchester Magnum is 0.6725".
This is from a leade-only throat with leade angle of 0*29'30"
starting at a base diameter of 0.469" on the case mouth chamfer of the chamber,
and the leading edge of the cylindrical slug starts at case mouth of maximum length brass:
2.500" for the .458 Win.

Thus shall it always be known,

No reason for the clips?? that is perhaps only the opinion of a few or visa versa..I think the clips are sexy if that counts and slicker n snot loading seems to count in my opine......Bertrum brass is inferior mostly manufactured on older worn out equipment IMO..

This conversation has lost its substance somewhere along the line it seems.
